Woodland Cottage is a well-presented cottage in the quiet hamlet of Backbarrow. Having open plan living areas and a separate den/snug is perfect for families with children.
Backbarrow is a small charming South Lakes village and is just around the corner from the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway so perfect for train enthusiasts, what was once built to transport coal and iron is now a very popular tourist attraction alongside the Lakeland Motor Museum. Being only a short drive away from Windermere or Coniston makes Woodland Cottage as a great base for exploring as far as Coniston Old man or to the quieter side of Windermere at Gummers How.
Woodland Cottage has a great layout with a large open-plan family room, lounge, dining area and kitchen opening up with large patio doors onto a perfectly formed patio for al fresco dining.
There is a separate snug for quieter moments or for children to play, two good size bedrooms and a newly renovated bathroom complete with a roll-top bath to relax in after a day of walking.

We enjoyed our stay at Woodland Cottage. Really easy to get to from the main road, and it was fantastic to be a short walk from the start of the Lakeside steam railway which we used twice during our stay, and also links to boats across Windermere.
Had a fantastic stay absolutely loved the cottage. We did book it at really short notice and it was a pleasant surprise to get such a lovely place! Location was great would highly recommend and we will definitely be booking again in the future
Had a great week, a good base for exploring southern Lake District. House had good facilities – plenty of storage space, comfortable beds, good selection of books and games in the snug. Nice spacious open plan kitchen/ diner and living area.
Having spent a week at Michelle’s home even if we wanted to find a fault it would be impossible as it is truly comfortable, cosy, well organised and clean house. It is very well situated if you are driving with easy access to the main roads leading to various nature attractions and towns such Windermere and Kendal. There is also a Motor Museum, Steam Train station and children’s play area within walking distance from the house. On arrival we also received a pleasant welcome gift (i.e. milk, biscuits, etc.) which was a nice touch.
We enjoyed our stay on the property. The property was clean and was excellent for a family of four people. If we visit Lakes again, we would be ok to stay on the property again.
This was a lovely cottage and a perfect base for our weekend in the lakes. Plenty of space for a family and great we didn’t need to bring our own cot/high chair and baby gate. Would definitely recommend this cottage to friends and family and next time we visit the lakes I’m sure we will book here again.
Very nice house in the south of the Lake District with nice furnishings.
An excellent cottage in a great location. Very family friendly. I stayed here with my wife and two boys (aged 6 and 10). On arrival there were great little touches like a pint of milk in the fridge for us, as well as complimentary biscuits. There were also a number of board games which helped keep the kids entertained. The cottage was very clean and well equipped with amenities Very good internet connectivity (around 70Mbps down and 17Mbps up). Only a 5 min walk from the Haverthwaite railway station where you can get a ride on a steam train. We took a ride up to Lakeside where we had a look around the aquarium, and then took a boat ride over to Bowness. Kids loved it! Highly recommended.
