The Courtyard enjoys a wonderful, elevated position on the lower slopes of Loughrigg Fell, just two miles from Ambleside. One of seven properties forming a ground floor portion of this former Gentlemans’ residence sharing in wonderful wooded grounds and gardens, home to a variety of visiting wildlife throughout the year and with direct fell access.

The apartment provides a peaceful, secluded haven for two and your dog, offering wonderful walks right from the door – follow the fell path into Ambleside, here you’ll find a varied selection of amenities and attractions, and plenty of watering holes and eateries to quench your thirst and appetite, leaving you ready for the walk back to base.

A secluded, peaceful haven for two, and your dog

Tucked away to the back of the site, The Courtyard is blessed with its own allocated parking space and courtyard style garden set against a rocky outcrop of the fell where the sun hits from lunch time until the early hours of the evening.

A side entrance leads into the modern, enclosed porch style conservatory with comfy seating and hanging space for wet weather gear. Through to the main accommodation with hard floors throughout comprising a cosy snug with leather corner sofa, colour TV and DVD.

The dining area is set around an electric, stove effect fire and is just off the fitted kitchen where you’ll find an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave.

A neat bathroom has a shower, handbasin, WC, and heated towel rail. The bedroom has a large Kingsize bed with large window with original shutters. A second seating area is located on the first floor mezzanine, an area to sit, relax and enjoy your latest novel with a cuppa.

  • Deva and John keeley says:

Perfect place for walkers to stay. Very comfortable and everything you need. Spectacular views of the lake on the country walk to town.

  • Ann says:

Great location for exploring the lakes! The flat is a great little place to relax in after a day exploring. Only a 5 minutes drive from Ambleside or a 30 odd minute walk – great chippy there which you can eat by the lake! Would happily book here again!

  • Emma says:

Lovely cottage/apartment. A short walk into Ambleside mostly on footpath. We had everything we needed. Would visit again.

  • Kate says:

A great base to explore the Lakes from – we really appreciated the location and the parking spot. The Courtyard had everything we needed, the milk and Prosecco were a lovely surprise too. Would stay again.

  • Maria says:

Nice place, ideal for dog owners. There is a fenced courtyard that is also the entrance to the flat. Perfect for walking as there is a footpath from the flat to the fell avoiding the road. Beautiful location with lots of walks from the flat and near by.

  • Alex says:

Great location with it only being a 5 minute drive from Ambleside. Flat has everything you need and can complain about anything.

  • S and C says:

Lovely location, well equipped kitchen, maps, 2 t.v’s and nice doggie treats and welcome pack.
The sun trap courtyard is communal but lovely neighbours and dog. Big garden to get our dog out first thing in morning and last thing at night.
The garden room was really useful for dog bowl, coat, boots etc even with us having wall to wall sunshine.
Plenty of space for 2 and our dog.

  • Julie says:

good outdoor space and friendly neighbours Main attraction is the location, some great walks and views directly from the door , the weather was good so spent most of time outdoors

  • Ellie says:

The house is just perfect and was such a great base for our holiday. With Chesters just down the road and Ambleside being 2 minutes away. It was also lovely and clean and had all of the basics so that you can arrive and settle straight in and enjoy your holiday. It was our dogs first holiday but she settled in straight away too 🙂 I would definitely recommend this house.

  • Charlotte says:

I loved this little flat and will definitely stay here again. It was just right for me and my dog and is a comfortable size for a couple. Gorgeous views just a few minutes away and easy access to walks. The flat had everything I needed and the snug was really cosy in the evenings. The sun hits the courtyard seating area in the evening and I can imagine this would be the perfect place to sit out in the evenings (when it’s a bit warmer!!). The coffee machine was a pleasant surprise!

  • Caitlin says:

The Courtyard is a lovely spot to enjoy the Lakes and a perfect size for a couple. Despite us having to rebook a number of times due to COVID restrictions, the host couldn’t be more accommodating. It was our first time visiting the area and the walk up to Loughrigg Fell which started just behind the house was a perfect first hike. If you don’t have a car it is a bit of a walk to Ambleside but in no way unmanageable – just be aware that there isn’t a pavement all the way and you do have to walk on the road at some points. If this isn’t an issue that it is a lovely place to stay to enjoy Cumbria

  • Claire says:

The perfect spot for a walking retreat. It’s tucked away and feels very private, but only a 20 mins walk into Ambleside town centre where there’s plenty of shops and pubs. And a short drive to top walking spots like Scafell Pike. The big sofa to stretch out on after a long day of walking is perfect and the bed is super comfy. There is a kitchen well-stocked with utensils if you want to cook and nice touches like board games and bowls for the dog. And you can sit out in the courtyard when the sun goes down. The two of us and our spaniel a wonderful time!

  • Laura Williamson says:

We had a fabulous stay at The Courtyard – it was in the perfect location for exploring the lakes and only a short walk / drive into Ambleside for more of a buzz. Completely dog friendly and very easy to self cater due to a fully stocked kitchen! I would highly recommend staying and would definitely be keen to visit again!! Thank you 🙂

  • Andrea says:

Lovely dog friendly cottage with lots of extra doggie touches and great for accessing local walks

  • Pip says:

Gorgeous flat in the most perfect location to explore the lakes. Would definitely recommend!

  • Alison says:

Lovely place and great walks from the door

  • Jess says:

Amazing location, go hiking from the back of house. Loved our stay and are keen to get back ASAP. Thanks for the great stay.

  • Rachel says:

Fantastic cottage in a great location with easy access to all the big walks and a short walk into Ambleside.

  • Vicki says:

“What a wonderful cottage! We had a full week whilst we explored the Lake District and the cottage offered us everything we needed whilst we were away. The kitchen was stocked with every utensil you will need and the bed was super comfy! Thanks for a great stay

  • Claire says:

Lovely apartment in an excellent location in Ambleside. Super comfy bed and very quiet despite being next to other apartments. Decor is a bit outdated but we don’t mind one bit when you’re spending most of your time outdoors in the lakes! The hosts left us some kind little treats on arrival and communication was swift and helpful.
