A Beautiful Retreat in The Heart of Ever-Popular Ambleside
Located directly opposite the iconic Lakeland landmark, The Bridge House, Tethera enjoys a convenient village centre location, ideal for a family or three couples to enjoy at any time of the year. There’s little need to use the car when choosing Ambleside as your base as everything really is on your doorstep – you may even decide to stay put for the week and not venture out of town!
Days will no doubt be spent exploring the local fell ranges, besides the shore, or even on, England’s largest Lake, or enjoying a gentle stroll and soaking up the backdrop of superb scenery that envelopes the village.
And, when the sun goes down, take in the latest blockbuster at one of two cinemas, sample one of Ambleside’s fine restaurants, The Old Stamp House being a firm favourite with us or enjoy some live music in one of the local pubs.
A comfortable, relaxing haven
Taking its name from no. 3 in our local dialect, Tethera has been thoughtfully re-modelled in recent times to create a comfortable, relaxing haven, a special place to relax, unwind and share precious times together.
From the front, enter into a stylish open plan living space with solid oak flooring and an exposed stone wall which was uncovered during the major refurbishment works, now a stunning backdrop to the warming wood-burning stove. The well-equipped and fitted kitchen is sure to be well utilised for creating that special occasion dinner or why not gather around the table and enjoy a board game or partake in a couple of drinks and nibbles before a night out in the village?
The first floor is home to two bedrooms, one king and one double, both with solid oak furnishings and smart TV sharing in a modern shower room. The master super-king bedroom sits on the second floor, again with handbuilt oak fitments, comfy seating and smart TV and with private access to a glorious bathroom with a free-standing, double-ended bath and separate shower, hand basin, and WC. Heads or tails as to who will sleep in this room?
This property also provides two parking permits, which is a great advantaged in central Ambleside.

Really comfortable and well-equipped cottage in a great location, with easy access to lovely walks and restaurants. We appreciated the cleanliness, tasteful decor, welcome hamper which included delicious local produce, parking permit, and beautiful views of Loughrigg over the slate buildings and bridge house opposite. Our four nights couldn’t have been better and we feel very lucky to have stayed in this fantastic place in cold, clear weather. Absolutely perfect in every way!
Stayed at Tethera for a week. Gem of a place , perfectly placed for walking, dining and shopping. No need to use your car.
Three great double bedrooms. Fully equipped kitchen and a lovely welcome basket. Recommend Bellis and Misto for dining out. Apple pie do a good latte.As does the little cafe at the waterfront.
What a gem!! Literally in the heart of Ambleside. It has everything you need over 3 floor. The most beautiful decor, it really was perfect. Every time we stay in the Lakes now it will have to be there!
Very well equiped home in the center of Ambleside. Just cross the street for lovely meals @Dodds or others. Lake District was beautifull. We Will be back
A very smart well appointed property right in the heart of Ambleside. Everything is on your doorstep.
I had a break away at this property with two family members and we all needed separate bedrooms. This was perfect. It was a perfect location right in the heart of Ambleside, meaning that we could easily walk (with my elderly dad) to local restaurants. It was a lovely house, very clean and cosy with ample space. The welcome basket of local bread, butter, jam, milk and biscuits were very welcome and there was a small pot of tea and coffee too. All the beds were comfy and the whole property was decorated to a high spec. Would I recommend it to others? Yes, I would 🙂

Great apartment in the city Center – if you are looking to stay in the Lake District, please choose this place – you will love it. 3 big bedrooms and a great living room + kitchen. Perfect for upto 6 people.
My friends and I came to stay for a long weekend, arriving on the Friday and setting off on the Monday. When we arrived there was a welcome basket of food waiting for us, which we were grateful for after a long day of travelling! Every room was clean and tidy and fresh towels were laid out on the bed like you would expect in a hotel. There are great bits of modern technology in the house too, including Sonos speakers which were great for the mornings and evenings with everyone around in the communal area. The location was excellent, practically being in the town centre already but not far from the start point of some good walks – Loughrigg Fell loop springs to mind. Overall, a fantastic place to stay! worth noting all the beds are double, so if it is six friends make sure you’re prepared to share a bed!
Absolutely beautiful place to stay. Everything about this stay was wonderful. We visited for my 22nd birthday and my friends and I had ample choice of restaurants, things to do and amazing walks with incredible views. Perfect balance of urban and rural in this location. Great location, house in excellent condition and very good value.
Wonderful property in a great location. Really cozy place. Well-equipped kitchen. The welcome box was much appreciated(milk, butter, bread, eggs & biscuits). Recommend walks from property to Loughrigg Fell & Stock Ghyll Force. We had some great food at The Apple Pie Cafe (amazing gingerbread), Tap Yard (good pizza & beer) & Queens Head, Troutbeck. The Golden Rule is a fantastic local pub for a beer. We also visited National Trust Hill Top – Beatrix Potter House & took a boat ride down to Bowness. A great week’s holiday.

We stayed here for my girlfriends birthday and we had a amazing time. It really felt like a home away from home. The dining area was perfect for us as we love to spend time together playing games and shearing a bottle of wine
Fabulous 3 storey house in amazing location. Bright and modern interior with mega comfy beds. Car parking (often and issue in Ambleside) was really easy with two free car parking passes as prt of the package. Welcome crate of goodies was very appreciated too. Loved it and would definitely boom to stay again.

This is an amazing house in a fabulous location convenient for all the shops, pubs and restaurants. Parking was easy with the permit provided. There were so many thoughtful touches like the welcome box and the house is really well equipped. The bath is amazing and the bed so comfortable. The house was warm and cozy and felt really luxurious. Thank you for making it a special location for celebrating a big birthday. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

The house was just perfect for us in every way! It’s location is ideal, we were able to park across the street (using the parking passes provided) and not use them till home time. Everything is within walking distance-pubs, shops, the lake and local transport.
The house was spacious and beautifully finished, enough space for our family of 6 adults and one new born baby. With the added addition of the side entrance with a slope was IDEAL for getting our pram in and out!
We have visited Ambleside many times but this was by far our best stay and we will definitely be returning to Tethera!

Brilliant house for enjoying Ambleside. Was perfect for 4 of us for weekend. Well equipped, loved the living area with fire – needed that as weather was terrible all weekend! Super comfy beds. Parking worked out fine for us. Recommend and definitely hope to return
This cottage was perfect. Location wise, was right in the middle of Ambleside with easy access to shops, cafes, restaurants and walks. The cottage itself was clean and comfortable and the parking permits for the car park were especially useful as we had travelled a long way up. We would all happily revisit in future.
The house is gorgeous from top to bottom. We were blown away when we arrived and saw all the work that has been done. Every room is so nice. It really was the perfect place for us to stay, being in such a convenient location and so nice and practical. All the arrangements around the booking were also perfect. I’d have no hesitation in booking again and recommending to others.

Such an amazing house. The pictures really dont do it justice. Had such a lovely weekend in Ambleside staying in the best kitted out self catering accommodation I’ve ever stayed in. Everything you need, just like home, even down to a little pint of milk in the fridge 🙂 Lakeland retreats are a brilliant company to book through and made everything very easy. Can’t wait to come back 🙂
