Emma and Katie were absolutely brilliant for quick and helpful communication, thank you so much! The house would be brilliant for a group of people to visit, as it’s really well located for both the lovely village itself but also lovely walks nearby (Wray Castle is a particularly lovely walk with a fab café!). The property is well stocked for cooking at home and we found the master bed (it was just the two of us!) comfortable. All in all, a very good base. I would note the very limited parking available (so I would probably advise if you have a large vehicle or needed parking for multiple vehicles that you’d need to find/pay for parking nearby)
What a beautiful cottage Smithy cottage is, we really enjoyed our time there & right in the centre of the village, looking forward to our next visit.
Great location and lovely cottage. Perfect for us as we didn’t need to use the car much at all.
We loved the cottage and it was in a perfect location. Plenty of places to get dinner out or the well equipped kitchen means you can cook a great family dinner. The rooms were clean and well appointed. We would definitely book a return visit!
Lovely comfortable cottage in a great location. It had everything we needed. The parking at the side of the house was spacious enough for our 4×4. The prosecco on arrival was a welcome surprise. The terrace at the front is a perfect and relaxing place to sit and watch the birds.
The Hawkshead cottage was in an amazing location. Right next to the red lion pub, many trails leaving off the back doorstep. We loved the proximity and the town is very quaint and has everything you need. The items that need improving are new mattresses as they were all very old and uncomfortable. The dryer didn’t work and the dishes weren’t clean. These improvements would earn a 5-star review as the common rooms are comfortable and the kitchen is new and nice place to cook in.
Great place, spacious and well equipped kitchen area. Lovely courtyard area for a relaxing evening drink in the evening sun. Brilliant location – giving plenty of access to local pubs and local walks.
Great location in the Lakes with plenty of amenities within walking distance. Beautiful area. Note that you need to pre book dinner at the pubs quite far in advance!
Great place, enjoyed a lot. Perfect location in the great town. Everything is accessible.
This is a beautifully decorated and comfortable cottage in pretty Hawkshead. The village has lovely shops and pubs and is a great base, especially for National Trust members. The cottage was spotless and the Prosecco on arrival was enjoyed in the sunshine in the courtyard. Being dog friendly was the icing on the cake- we would totally recommend a stay ( group of 5 adults ) Thankyou
We had a great stay. The cottage is in the heart of Hawkshead with just a few minutes walk from all the pubs and restaurants. The cottage was very easy to find and is in a perfect location to access all roads etc. I can’t fault the team with regards to their customer service as they were very quick to respond to any queries I had. Overall we had a great stay.
Smithy cottage is a lovely property in a perfect location. Unfortunately we had a horrendous storm that caused a power cut and in turn we couldn’t cook and the heating went off. We got a full refund and will definitely rebook in the future.
Lovely, warm and cosy cottage. With everything you need. Coop just around the corner as are great pubs and cafes. One of the best locations I’ve ever stayed
Lovely cosy cottage with everything you need, excellent location! We really enjoyed our long weekend and the bonfire and fireworks in hawkshead did not disappoint .
A well equipped and comfortable cottage within the centre of Hawkshead.plea Nth of room for the six of us adults and three dogs
This is a fantastic cottage in a very lovely little village. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals, the separate living room with TV and internet were perfect for evenings when we wanted to relax and catch up on our Netflix shows. With 2 bedrooms on the first floor and 1 bedroom on the 2nd floor we could put the kids in the upper floor and be confident they’ll sleep without hearing us on the ground floor. The village had a number of different pubs for dinner and a fantastic ice cream parlor worth a visit or two. We used Hawkshead as a jumping point to explore lots of the surrounding areas including Grizedale, Whinlatter, and Brockhole; all a relatively short drive way. We will definitely be staying here again.
We had a lovely time during our stay. Lovely, friendly pubs within a few strides from the property. Plenty of space for 6 adults. Easy access to more popular regions by car.
Great cottage in superb location right in heart of Hawkshead. Feels cosy but can accommodate six comfortably. Two bathrooms, one on each upper level makes it convenient for families and larger groups.
Smithy cottage is a lovely well presented cottage in the centre of the village of Hawkshead close to everything Hawkshead has to offer. We arrived to a very clean and welcoming cottage with a bottle of Prosecco and glasses waiting for us on the table and pint of milk in the fridge. The cottage is well equipped with everything you should need for a stay. Unfortunately we had lots of rain(pretty torrential on some days) during our stay and only one pub was serving food which you had to book several days in advance but it didn’t spoil the break as the scenery and walks around Hawkshead are beautiful even in the rain.
A lovely little cottage in Hawkshead, well placed for visiting the Southern Lakes. All very easy, the cottage was spotless on arrival. Communication beforehand was super too; lot of help with recommendations for local pubs
The USP for this lovely property is its location. Right in the heart of beautiful Hawkshead, this property was ideal for three generations of our family. The younger ones were able to escape to the nearby Grizedale and enjoy all the thrills available in the forest and the more mature, were able to enjoy the delights on the doorstep within the village. The house is perfect for furry family members, with multiple walks immediately outside the property. The terrace garden allowed us to enjoy a glass of wine and game of cards in the evening sunshine.
We’ve had a fabulous week in Smithy cottage which is in a great location minutes from the village. We really enjoyed the terrace which is a real sun trap. There were some maintenance issues that disappointed us some of which could have been dealt with before we arrived. We did so many beautiful walks, swam in the lakes and had picnics surrounded by beautiful scenery. There were many people in the lakes but we found if you park early and get off the beaten track, it was very quiet and peaceful. There is a parking space with the cottage. Additional cars have to be parked in the village car park for £8/day, alternatively the local school charge £5 but the car can’t be left overnight.
Wonderful location! Steps from several pubs. Well-equipped and clean. A great stay. Highly recommend!
Our family loved Smithy cottage. It is cosy and comfortable and a great location, right in the heart of the village. There is a local pub almost next door and other lovely shops and cafes in the village. There is so much to do close by without having to drive far and this part of the Lakes was peaceful and tranquil, away from some of the busier resorts. The cottage was very clean and we were thrilled to enjoy a glass of Prosecco kindly left for us on our arrival.
Tidy, cosy, and surprisingly spacious! Lovely and warm too, helpful after a long day on the fells. Hawkshead is also well placed, giving you ready access to the center of the Lakes. Got more than one car? You’ll need to park at the local car park, but ignore Google reviews – it’s now owned by the local authority.
A great week, the house is well located, has everything you need and was spotlessly clean. Any questions or queries were dealt with in good time – will be back
This is a beautiful and comfortable cottage and great for dogs with the slate flooring. It is very clean and the location is superb. There was everything in the property that was needed for cooking at home and the bottle of prosecco was gratefully received. The double beds were very comfortable with firm mattresses. We didn’t use the single beds so can’t comment on those. All in all we had a thoroughly enjoyable week and would recommend it to others and definitely use it again.
“Lovely place. Clean and cosy. Hawkshead is a great spot.
Great location, right in the centre of Hawkshead. Very easy to walk everywhere. The house was lovely and comfortable. Had a really enjoyable stay.
Lovely place, very well located and spotless
This is a lovely, well appointed cottage, in a fantastic location in Hawkshead village, close to village shops, pubs, and restaurants and at the start of many wonderful walks. I would certainly recommend it to others.
Super, comfortable cottage in a perfect location for easy walking access to good pub restaurants and walking trails. Our dog was very welcome, as he was in pubs, cafes, lake boats and local buses. (Dog’s dream holiday) We all enjoyed curling up in front of the sitting room fire after a day of walking and sampling the treats that our host left for us in the kitchen. A perfect stay.
The location is excellent, the house was immaculate, there was a great welcome basket with bread, fruit cake and jam. All the amenities (washing machine, dishwasher, etc) were new and worked well.
Lovely place to stay with the family. The pictures do not do the cottage justice as it quite large and beautifully and fully equipped. There was a washing machine and dishwasher. Will definitely be looking to book and come back in the future. Location too could not have been better bang in the centre of Hawkshead so food shops (co-op plus local delicacies ) loads of pubs – Queen Head our fav for food) and teashops too.
We absolutely loved our stay in Smithy Cottage! We were welcomed with a lovely basket of local goodies, which really warmed our hearts. It is an adorable, very clean, cheerful cottage that looks even nicer than the photos. It appears to be very recently renovated. Beds were very comfortable. It is very well furnished with newer appliances and appointed with sweet Winnie the Pooh and Beatrix Potter sketches or other animal prints appropriate with the Hawkshead area. We managed to snap the shower head when we got there and found it replaced within a couple of hours of reporting it while we were out on a hike – amazing service! In short, Smithy Cottage has everything a family would need to vacation comfortably and even enjoy outdoor dining in the front garden area. I would highly recommend staying there and would definitely stay again. The house is located at the end of a quiet road just off the main street of the village and only footsteps away from everything including the grocery store, a pub, a tea shop, cat cafe, a major hiking trail head, post office and other lovely shops. I would highly recommend staying there and would definitely stay again!
Lovely Lakeland cottage. Well equipped and good position. Well equipped and thought out. Would be happy to come again
Lovely little cottage in Hawkshead. Had everything you need. Comfy beds. Lovely local area. Warm. Nice suntrap patio area. Really good communication and hospitality. Thanks xX
Smithy Cottage was just perfect! Everything you need and a wonderful host. Hawkshead was a great jumping off point for our short stay and we would definitely come again!
