Delightfully located to the North of Ambleside lies the lovely Rushbrook, a quaint, stone-built cottage providing superb facilities for the smaller party. Set well back from Rydal Road and nestled amongst mature trees and shrubs, Rushbrook is an ideal and peaceful base from where to explore wonderful walks from the door and discover all that this popular location has to offer the first or returning visitor. Original features of flagged floors and a warming wood burner sit seamlessly against the modern kitchen and shower room whilst quality soft furnishings and a modern colour palette create a calming yet contemporary twist to this charming, cosy cottage.
Ambleside is a quarter of a mile, level walk away where you’ll find everything needed to fully self-cater during your stay but if you do prefer to eat out, you’ll be spoiled with the huge choice of cuisine on hand, something for every pocket and palate. Steeped in history, you’ll find the iconic 17th Century Bridge House at the heart of the village, one of the most photographed buildings in the whole of the Lake District, perfect for a holiday-selfie opportunity. The historic Roman Fort at Galava Gate, built in AD79 is set close to the shores of Windermere at Borrans Park against a backdrop of Loughrigg Fell, an idyllic setting and well worth a visit during your stay.
Step into the welcoming hallway where you’ll find a handy understairs cupboard, somewhere to put all your outdoor weather gear and head straight through to the newly fitted kitchen, a welcoming space with accent lighting and modern grey units fitted with solid wood countertops that beautifully compliment the original flagged flooring below. Head left into the lounge with quality laminate flooring and a colour palette of soft greys with a large comfy sofa and matching snuggle chair to relax into whilst watching the SMART TV and DVD and warm your toes on the wood-burning stove. The dining suite is strategically placed in front of the bay window with a view towards the garden.
Stairs from the hallway lead to the ‘no shoe zone’ first floor where you’ll find a Kingsize bedroom with fitted furniture and a single bedroom, both sharing in a modern house shower room with a large cubicle, basin with illuminated mirror above and WC.
Outside, an enclosed cottage style garden sits across the path from the cottage, a lovely place to sit and listen to the nearby babbling brook while reading your favourite novel or listening to your favourite playlist. Private off-road parking is available for one car through the gate and you can pull up directly outside the front door to unload.
Please note: the private, gated drive is a little steep down to the cottage. Do take care of young children when near running water.

Gorgeous cosy cottage. Beautifully presented in an excellent position less than 10 minutes walk into Ambleside. We had a fantastic time.
We really enjoyed our week staying at Rushbrook with our 1-year-old. The cottage is in a lovely setting, convenient for Ambleside but feels secluded in gardens/fields. The kitchen is really well provisioned and we enjoyed relaxing in the comfortable living space.
We had a brilliant stay. The cottage was lovely and had great views with sheep’s grazing on the fields. Location is good with a 5 minute walk into the town centre. Clear instructions on how to use everything in the cottage along with excellent suggestions of the various walks around the area. Would highly recommend staying here. We loved it.

Beautifully renovated cottage, as described. Great location just outside Ambleside town. Very well equipped kitchen, very much home from home. Very clean. Would love to stay again.
A beautiful cottage, well equipped with everything you need. Lovely homely chill out feel. Great to wake up & see the hillside & sheep from your bedroom window. Perfect location to walk into Ambleside & walk some of the fells from your doorstep. Bus stop right outside the drive, Rydal Hall & Rydal Waters are a lovely morning or evening short stroll also on your doorstep. A beautiful cottage in a perfect location. Nothing negative to say about Rushbrook.
Just had wonderful weeks stay at Rushbrook. Everything about the cottage is 1st class with every small detail taken care of. Delightful inside and out and the owners Steve and Denise couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. Ideally situated close to Ambleside and bus stop is right outside for trips further away. Will definitely return
Great property, beautifully decorated, with super thoughtful touches. Wonderful communication from a very helpful team. Fantastic location within easy walking distance of centre of ambleside. Would love to return again
We had a wonderful stay in Ambleside. This cottage is super convenient to get to Ambleside town and to go on some beautiful walks right from the doorstep. Cottage was a great size and had everything we could possibly need for the week. Thoroughly recommend.
Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at Rushbrook cottage. The location was perfect for our family trip and we had lovely walks in the rain and sunshine. The cottage was so homely and the little touches of a Christmas tree, bottle of wine and log fire made the perfect end to our Christmas break. The attention to detail was welcomed especially in the kitchen.
We have gone back to work and school feeling very refreshed and relaxed. Please pass on our thanks to the owners. The booking system was also so simple and the key safe made it easy to access the property. Thanks again.
what a lovely place. Arrived to find a Christmas tree up & some lovely subtle decorations dotted about the place. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment & plenty of wood for the log burner was supplied. The place was extremely clean & felt very new. We loved spending Christmas there. The location was also perfect as we were only a 5 minute walk from town. Far enough out for it to be quiet but close enough to walk with 2 children. Ambleside is perfect for families. Good choice of restaurants, there is also a park & you can walk to windermere and the pier in 30 minutes. We would definitely love to go back to this property
Our stay at Rushbrook was delightful. We have stayed in many cottages in the Lake District over the last 20 years and Rushbrook is certainly one of the best. The location is great for walking routes from the house and close to Ambleside. The cottage is warm, very well equipped and comfortable. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it and hope to return soon.
This is by far the best AirBnB place I have stayed at. The location is perfect – beautiful hiking trails right on the doorstep and the perfect distance from town to feel secluded yet only be a 10 minute walk to the shops. And the cottage itself is wonderful, beautifully renovated with obvious love and care and with all the little touches that make a stay away that extra bit special. Extremely well equipped kitchen, toasty warm, fast wifi and plenty of space to dry wet gear. I hope to be back.
