There a few cottages in the area that can boast such a picturesque setting as Riverside Cottage and if you’ve ever popped into the fabulous Chesters By The River at Skelwith Bridge for coffee and cake, then you’ll be very familiar with the location of this much admired property.
A fantastic array of walks can be enjoyed straight from your door ranging from short ambles to full day hikes whilst cyclists will revel in the amount of routes to explore within such a small radius.
Known to its locals as the jewel in Lakelands crown, nearby Ambleside is well stocked with plentiful eateries and interesting shopping whilst romantic Grasmere offers a quieter, more relaxed pace set against a backdrop of stunning scenery that’s been inspiring creatives for centuries. And when you’ve worked up a thirst and an appetite, pop along to The Talbot Bar and sample their menu of ‘Lakeland comfort food’ and local Jennings ale, last orders for food 9pm.
Riverside Cottage has bags of curb appeal and just oozes country cottage charm. Step into the open plan living space with stone flagged floors upon which sits a traditional wood burning stove, a welcome sight after a day walking the fells with the dog.
The fully equipped kitchen area is wrapped in cool granite and has everything you’ll need to cook up a romantic dinner for two to be enjoyed at the dining table or as a TV dinner. The pretty bedroom has an antique double bed dressed with luxurious linens to ensure a restful sleep and adjacent, modern en-suite shower room. Riverside Cottage is blessed with an enclosed, lawned garden with strategically placed seating from where to sit and take in the sights and sounds of the river and spot the visiting wildlife.
The property has stone flagged floors throughout with Rointe electric panel heaters.

Respond to Riverside Cottage
I (and my springer) had a wonderful week at Riverside Cottage – cosy and welcoming with everything I needed, with a lovely garden. A lovely cottage in a superb location – one of the best self catering cottages I have stayed in. Just perfect – with excellent support from Lakeland Retreats. Can’t wait to return.
Simply amazing place. Gorgeous location and really thoughtful to leave some milk and Prosecco for our arrival. The shower is amazing and just what you need after a day of fell walking! A bus stop nearby for quick access to Ambleside. The place was so cozy and cute and we can’t wait to re-book for next year. Thank you so much 🙂
Lovely end terrace cottage in secluded lane. Nice for a family getaway somewhere truly peaceful.
Lovely quiet setting with pub and cafe close by – ideal set up
This is a gorgeous little cottage positioned right next to Skelworth Bridge on the river. The local scenery is breathtaking and we managed several fabulous walks right from the doorstep. The cottage is small – perfect for us two and our dog- but well equipped. Michelle was a great host and responded very quickly to any emails. We had a fabulous, relaxing stay with some brilliant walks and I’d definitely recommend this place to stay.
Fantastic location for walks and very close to Ambleside itself. Nice touches on arrival with bread and amenities already there. Lovely little cottage.
Our stay was perfect, a great space and garden, great facilities provided and very cosy. It was as described and met all our needs, a lovely place to stay and would definitely recommend it.
Everything you need. Wonderful location
Great place in a great location. Very friendly and excellent communication throughout
Many thanks to you all at Lakeland Retreats for making our recent stay at Riverside Cottage so enjoyable and memorable. We were delighted to receive our hamper which included a lovely ginger cake, shortbread biscuits and fresh bread and butter and jam. They were all enjoyed throughout our stay. Thank you so much for the wonderful service we received. We really appreciated all that Riverside Cottage had to offer, the espresso machine, the fluffy towels, how clean it was everywhere, the beautiful garden and location and are so grateful to you all for all the care that was put into making it all so lovely for us. We had a great stay and so did our golden retriever Sammy.
