Ideal Quality Retreat for a Larger Gathering of Friends and Family

The rather splendid Oakroyd is a well-placed, high-quality retreat set in a quiet backwater of Ambleside, the ideal venue for an annual gathering of family and friends seeking a central base, somewhere to spend special time together and create unforgettable holiday memories. A traditional Lakeland stone and slate house, Oakroyd offers a winning combination of space and comfort and ticks all the boxes in terms of your holiday home wish list. Light, bright and tastefully decorated, the owners have taken great care to ensure the excellent facilities are both practical and stylish and set out over three main floors, the views of the surrounding fells get better the more stairs you climb!

Ambleside is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Lake District. Surrounded by magnificent scenery, wonderful walking and cycling opportunities, the village is an obvious choice for the first time or returning outdoorsy visitor. Tick off some of the 214 famous Wainwright’s from the doorstep here at Oakroyd or tackle one of England’s most challenging cycle routes, ‘The Struggle’, 400 metres above Ambleside and the highest road in the Lake District. For a more sedate pace, take a leisurely stroll through Rothay Park, over the stepping stones and along to Rydal Water and Caves, a lovely, scenic route with plenty of picnic and photograph opportunities along the way.

  • May says:

Many positives. Location is great. House was very clean and shower was super. Parking was easy right outside the house. Upstairs was cosy. House well stocked with non toxic cleaning materials. However weather was awful and there are no coat hooks anywhere for soaking wet coats. Would be easy to put these in the hallway. Downstairs was cold in December so we had to buy firewood and use the stove which was fine apart from the fact it’s in the dining room. Lounge was just too cold. No table lamps downstairs which seems odd given that money has been spent on nice furniture.

  • Patrick says:

A great cottage in a great location, with everything you need for a relaxing stay in the Lake District

  • Roman says:

Wonderful quite cottage. Wi-Fi works great on all floors. Found parking easily.

  • Paul says:

A lovely house in a great location. Perfect for exploring the Lake District or just enjoying Ambleside. The house is modern, spotless and charming. Would highly recommend.

  • Tiffany says:

This place is PERFECT! The location wad wonderful! We walked to eateries and loved being so close to a Boots and a Coop. One night we didn’t get street parking but it was no big deal to park in the lot next door – it is separated by a wall so you do have to walk around the block to get there but the walk is just fine and has a bakery on the way which was great in the morning to grab a sausage roll on the way to the car. We also walked to the waterfall in Ambleside (Stock Ghyll Force) from our place. The parking pass got us free parking in Bowness, Grasmere, and other places and was so great! It really did save us money as we explored the region. The row house itself was so clean and nice! We never cooked and ate there but the kitchen had everything you need and the dining room was spacious! We loved the sitting room where was watched Jubilee events in the evenings. The best park of this place has to be the bathrooms!!! We loved having newly renovated bathrooms with clawfoot tub and rain shower! The bedding in the rooms was top quality! You can’t beat this wonderful row house so close to everything yet still quiet and residential. We loved our stay here!

  • Richard says:

This property is outstanding. It’s absolutely beautiful and will far surpass any expectations. Just everything about it is wonderful. It has been refurbished to a very high standard. The beds are so comfy. The whole house is lovely and warm. The location is perfect, right in the middle of Ambleside but super quiet set back from the main area.

  • Shirley says:

We had a great stay at Oakroyd during October half-term. The cottage is in a perfect location in Ambleside – very close to all amenities, yet set in a quiet street away from all the hustle and bustle. It is spotlessly clean and well-equipped with excellent wifi, much to the relief of the teenage contingent!

Incredible air bnb! Really beautiful lay-out of furniture and utilities, brilliant WiFi, dishwasher so useful, parking permits were really helpful, beds super comfy, incredible shower, the list just keeps going! Ideal distance from Windermere and only a short drive away to walk up Scafell! Also super close to great shops, cafes and restaurants!

  • Alex says:

Michelle’s property is beautifully furnished, incredibly comfortable and situated in a quiet residential street but still less than a minute from central Ambleside; a perfect stay!
