Holmdale Cottage is a super holiday retreat for all seasons. Perfectly placed for a self-catering break at any time of year, there’s an abundance of activities to enjoy in all weathers, right on the doorstep; a superb park with adventure playground for the children, pitch and putt as well as an indoor climbing wall, two cinemas (Zeffirelli’s & Fellinis) and of course, some wonderful walking opportunities that this part of the Lakes is so famous for.
Perfectly placed right in the heart of this vibrant, outdoorsy village, there’s a wide range of shops, pubs and restaurants to sample and a great selection of supermarkets, butchers and bakers for those who like to cater for themselves.
You’ll receive a very warm welcome here at Holmdale. The entrance hall retains the original Victorian floor tiles which set the scene for the colourful theme throughout the cottage. A handmade kitchen married with flagged floors and a wood burning stove makes for a cosy dining experience whilst the comfortable lounge to the front of the cottage has an original stripped floor and feature fireplace.
On the first floor you’ll find a double bedroom which can be made up as twins (please ask at time of booking) with a modern shower room and a further double bedroom. The house bathroom echoes the cottage’s lively decor and offers a shower over a deep bath, perfect for a long soak with a good book or iPad.
There’s a small, enclosed courtyard to the rear with secure storage for those of you with bikes.
Sorry, Holmdale is a dog free property.
The property has gas central heating throughout with tiles flagged floors in the kitchen and wooden floor in the living room

Perfect base for exploring Ambleside and beyond. The shed is great for storing bikes and paddle boards and the washer & dryer were useful. The parking outside can be tricky at times. But the permit is very helpful and we really enjoyed our stay. The restaurants on the road are excellent.”
Great house, perfectly located on the main road in Ambleside, but not too loud at all. Good facilities, comfortable beds, and nicely decorated. Would very happily stay again!
Lovely, stylish home in a great location to access the Lakes and Ambleside’s shops and pubs. The bed was really comfy and the whole house is very spacious. The host’s communication was quick and check in was easy. Would recommend staying here to everyone.
This house is beautifully presented by a very thoughtful host. Location is excellent and the area is very special. Parking is the only hassle but we managed to “work with the system” and got one not too far away at all times. We loved local restaurant “Lucy on a plate” as the food was extra good. Highly recommend this wonderful stay.
This is a gorgeous cottage, super clean, very stylish and highly recommended. Ambleside is a wonderful location. I highly recommend it. My family and I had a fantastic break.
The location is really really great, with lots of restaurants, convenience stores and a golf range in the street garden. The landlord is professional, the rooms is clean.
Comfortable beds, brilliant shower, fabulous location. Will book again.
Absolutely brilliant location for exploring Ambleside and a great base for the rest of the Lakes. Kitchen was well equipped and the bedrooms were very comfortable! Very lovely little cottage. We can’t wait to come back. You can park with a permit (available in local shops) outside the property for one hour or you can use the permit provided by the host and park without a time limit in a car park about 5 mins walk away.
What a great location for a base in the Lakes. We used it for a week: both for work and for walking and it was ideal for both. The beds are top notch (hotel beds not ordinary domestic ones) and the showers were excellent – the two things that are absolutely key for a relaxing week. The house (and particularly the kitchen) was very well equipped with everything you need including good knives and range of utensils and tools. The little courtyard garden was ideal for catching the sun in the morning and being right in the heart of Ambleside made it easy to go out, start walks or get some shopping in: a really lovely week.
Lovely place and close to all amenities. A really really nice place to be. Recommended.”
