Traditional Cottage Set in A Quiet, Conservation Area of Ambleside

Perched at the top of the affectionately known Peggy Hill, a quaint and ancient conservation area of Ambleside, sits the aptly named Hillside Cottage. One of a cluster of attractive, traditional cottages built along an L-shaped terrace, the location is perfect for your friend or family group to access all that this vibrant village has to offer. The emphasis here is very much on home from home comfort for you and all of your party and of course, those tempting views that can be enjoyed from the front down over Smithy Brown and towards Loughrigg Fell beyond.

Ambleside is a stone’s throw away, brimming with interesting galleries, outdoor shops, cafes, bars and restaurants to suit every palate and pocket. If you’re an adventurous group, there are a large selection of fantastic activities to enjoy and plenty of room in the garage to store your paddleboards, bikes and other outdoor equipment.

Respond to Hillside Cottage

  • Paul & Sam says:

Wonderful stay at this cottage. It Has everything you could need for a comfortable, clean and warm stay. Plenty of space, right in the heart of Ambleside. A real find ! Also two parking spaces and a garage which are hard to come by especially in Ambleside. Had a great stay as a family of 5 with a toddler and the dogs. Would definitely stay again. Easy communication with any questions etc and Lovely touch left of milk/eggs/bread and jam. Thank you !

  • Nick says:

Hillside is perfectly located for exploring the lakes and easy for walking into the village for the pubs and restaurants. The accommodation has all the amenities that you need and the furniture is in keeping with the period of the cottage. The only down side is the shower is a little bit small and not much parking available if your group has more than one car due to the central location but overall a very good place to stay and will visit again.

  • Evangeline says:

Myself and 4 friends stayed at Hillside Cottage and had an amazing stay! Communication before check-in was great and had no issues getting to and into the property. The cottage looked exactly like the photos, and was very clean. Although some of the furniture has been described as ‘outdated’ on other reviews, this added to the charm and although a bit old fashioned were very clean too. Bedrooms were spacious and had everything you needed, beds comfy and very easy to sleep in. The description mentioned one bathroom but we were pleased to see two toilets (one downstairs and one upstairs) and an additionally bathroom with a shower and bath. The location is great if you want to get to Ambleside/Windermere and the neighbouring areas. Kitchen had everything we needed (except for maybe teabags/coffee) so we ended up getting our own and there wasn’t shower gel in the bathroom but again, we brought our own. Some previous reviews had mentioned a welcome basket but there wasn’t one for our visit, but we just assumed that this was no longer a thing and wasn’t an issue. Would recommend friends and family to stay here and we would definitely consider coming back if we were in the area again.

  • Jodie says:

Such a lovely clean house with fantastic views and amazing location.

  • Graham says:

Great location off the Main Street in Ambleside. Cottage was clean and tidy throughout. Ideal place for 4 – 6 people

  • Phil says:

Great place to stay. Super convenient for Ambleside.

  • Joseph says:

Had a lovely stay at the cottage. Situated in a quiet part of ambleside but within very easy walking distance of the centre of the village. Would definitely stay again in the future.

  • Zoe says:

Excellent location, good size bedrooms and decent kitchen & bathroom. Only negative was the age & condition of some of the furnishings, I know it’s an old house & they want to keep its character but the living room in particular does need updating, feels a little dingy. We had a lovely stay though it had everything we needed and was value for money in peak season.

  • John says:

This is a great spot. Ambleside is a pretty town and the house is literally a 2 minute walk from the centre. The place is clean and tidy and we would definitely stay again if returning to the area. Communication with the host was easy and they were always willing to help. They dropped round a travel-cot after business hours when we asked and when we checked out we forgot to pack something and they were happy to post it back to us.

  • Ian Ferguson says:

Lovely cottage situated in a great location to access all amenities in Ambleside. Plenty of room in cottage & added bonus is parking outside or in garage.
    Hope to return soon.

  • David says:

The cottage is perfectly located minutes from the town and walks right from the door. The welcome basket of local food was appreciated. We would definitely recommend Hillside Cottage.

  • Kieran says:

Great location with a responsive and helpful host. Kitchen was spacious and well equipped. Contrary to the listing there were actually 2 toilets.

  • Andrew says:

Well equipped 4 bedroom cottage in the heart of Ambleside (-yet quiet and with 2 car parking spaces!). The interior, pictures and furnishings are quite dated but i think it adds to the charm of the place. It’s got a terraced garden, washing m/c, Smart TV, Wi-fi, etc. Perfect for a family and it’s dog friendly too. Definitely recommend.

  • Henrietta says:

A lovely cottage in the middle of Ambleside. A quiet street but easy walking distance to the town and the lake. A garage for the car and a small shared garden at the back. Really loved our weekend

This is a great olde worlde property. May not be for some but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Was like staying at my grandmothers. Location is superb for access to Ambleside town and walks. Loads of walks direct from the house. Very clean.

  • Susan Peck says:

Lovely house with lovely views. Great accommodation in good location no need to use the car lots of walks straight from the door.

Superb location, quiet area yet only a 2 min walk to the main street. clean, tidy and good value for money.

The location was just right – quiet but conveniently close to shops and cafes, as well as amazing walks. I would definitely stay here again if I get the chance to go back to the Lake District!
