Modern Bungalow Retreat Close To The Slopes of Wansfell

The owners of Hillcrest have been enjoying holidays at this much-loved family home since their childhood and we’re delighted to be able to share the wonderful facilities and views that this rather modern, bungalow retreat has to offer. Hillcrest has changed considerably over the years having undergone a major transformation to ensure up to the minute facilities in a relaxed, homely environment. Although the accommodation has altered dramatically, the view certainly hasn’t and you’ll be hard pushed to find a better, 180-degree view over Ambleside and to the fells beyond than from the lounge and terrace here at Hillcrest.

Within a short stroll from the house lie the slopes of Wansfell, one of Wainwright’s 214 iconic walks, the steep climb rewarding you with simply stunning views of this lovely part of Lakeland.  Ambleside is as popular as ever; the obvious outdoorsy activities of walking, cycling and more recently, open water and wild swimming are all on hand for you to enjoy freely during your stay. Ambleside is fast becoming renowned as a top foodie destination too with no fewer than 7 Michelin star restaurants throughout South Lakeland. Ambleside boasts two of these superior eateries; The Old Stamp House, named by Trip Advisor as the No. 1 restaurant in the world (July 2021) and her sister restaurant Kysty, also included in the Michelin guide. Booking is advisable at all of these establishments.

Take In The Stunning, 180 Degree Views Of Ambleside And Her Surrounding Fell Range

From the front, enter into the outer hallway with ample space for hanging your outdoor jackets and boots. The utility come office sits off here where you’ll find the laundry facilities including a washer and dryer and a handy computer monitor and keyboard in case you need to check in with work whilst you’re away. Straight ahead of the outer hallway lies the main accommodation; head right into a very smart and stylish flint grey kitchen with complimenting oak tops housing an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher. The wrap-around dining lounge is extremely comfortable and a large expanse of windows allows the light to flood in giving way to breathtaking views.  A cosy wood burning stove is provided to keep you warm in the cooler months and the SMART TV will ensure you can catch up on all your favourite programmes during your stay. Hillcrest has three delightful bedrooms, each individually presented with striking accent colours and matching accessories. A kingsize to the front of the house enjoys fine views over the garden to the fells beyond whilst the other kingsize lies on the other side of the house. The twin bedroom to the side has 2ft 6” beds and can be made up as a king if preferred – please advise us at the time of booking. The bedrooms share in two newly refurbished bathrooms, one a stylish shower room with cubicle, basin and WC, the other with a shower over the bath, again with basin and WC.

Outside, the tiered gardens and terrace provide the most amazing 180-degree view over Ambleside and to the fells beyond.

Please note: there is a low boundary wall between the terrace and the lawn below so please do take care at all times.

Level parking for one car is available outside the garage with further space available on the steep, sloping drive down to the house. Although Hillcrest is a pet-free property, the owners do have a dog and visit the property occasionally throughout the year.

    We recently enjoyed a family holiday in Ambleside and exploring the beautiful Lake District. Our first time visiting the area and not disappointing in any way, we will be back. Our accommodation at Hillcrest was superb. It has been refurbished to a high standard with tasteful interior design. One of the best holiday homes we have stayed in. The bungalow has great views, in particular relaxing on the terrace with ample outdoor seating. The whole accommodation is very comfortable and well equipped yet so close to Ambleside town. Highly recommend hosts Michelle & Adam along with their friendly team for ensuring we had a lovely stay. Good communication from booking to our arrival. We look forward to booking future holidays in Ambleside

    We had a wonderful week at Hillcrest. We loved the spacious living area and the modern kitchen and bathrooms. The location was fabulous – a 10 minute walk into Ambleside and right on the slopes of Wansfell.

    Superb property in a great location. The bungalow is very spacious, spotless and well equipped, it is bright and airy with mountain views from every window. The garden is stunning and was gorgeous to sit out watching the sunset over the fells. The location is superb being about 10 minutes walk in either direction to Ambleside centre or Windermere. We were a family of five with teenage children and had a wonderful week exploring the area.

    Great location, spotless property, brilliant facilities and amenities, good communication, easy check in. Toddler friendly property. Has a good cot bed and high chair – the cot bed mattress was padded which is great. Wonderful views – and a deer that visits the garden!

    We have stayed in a lot of properties but this is the first one in quite a long time where we have opened the door and gone wow. The views are stunning and the bungalow does not disappoint either. Modern and immaculately clean we were impressed by the quality of everything. In a great location for the central lakes and a short walk to both the town centre and the lake. We stayed with two children under 3 and had everything we needed. I also think compared to other properties we have recently stayed in nearby it is fantastic value for money. We hope to stay again soon.

    A lovely place to stay with extended family. We had a great time. A big comfortable living room for socialising. Really spacious rooms with lots of storage. Fantastic garden would be wonderful for a summer stay. Bit of a slog uphill from Ambleside but on the plus side the walk there is all downhill! Plenty of parking for 3 cars, just a bit of a knack to getting in the car port especially with an estate car if you arrive after dark the first day.

    Lovely stay at Hillcrest this week- fantastic location and a really warm, comfortable stay. House was perfect- very well equipped and fabulous views. Great base for wonderful walks- did Blencathra, Scafell Pike, Old Man Coniston and Loughrigg Fell; visited Beatrix Potter’s house and gallery and Wray Castle; had a climbing taster session at Ambleside Adventure; delicious breakfast and lunch at The Copper Pot and fantastic evening meal at Kysty. Lakeland Retreats were very responsive and efficient. Highly recommend!

    A great location just 10 minutes walk from town centre. Very clean, modernised and well thought out space with everything you need and more. Lovely views and sunsets and pleased it was a pet-free home too. Uphill walk back from town which helped walk off great dinners from Lucy’s restaurant! Highly recommended.
