For the adventure-seeking couple, the location couldn’t be more perfect. Walks, cycle routes and activities for all ages and abilities are literally on the doorstep whilst a host of waterborne pursuits can be enjoyed alongside, on or even in Windermere itself.

Park up and walk down a few steps to your home from home for the week and into a handy boot room with plenty of space for outdoor gear that also doubles as the utility room. The wooden kitchen has everything you’ll need to cook up an intimate dinner for two before snuggling up in front of the gas fireplace in the lovely lounge dining room.
The huge patio doors slide open onto the private terrace which looks out over colourful tiered gardens and towards the beautiful fells beyond. There’s a large, modern walk-in shower room, the King Size bedroom sitting just a few steps up from here. That all-important parking spot is provided but please note, it’s only suitable for a small to medium car.

Amazing location and property with the little details to make you feel welcome as soon as you step into the door! As others have mentioned, parking can be quite tight but that’s to be expected with the central and great location of the property. It was also a little hard for us to find it the first time we arrived but I guess that’s why it’s called the hidden gem! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend this property and the host to anyone looking for a place in Ambleside or the Lake District as a whole!

Great location, has all you need and the balcony overlooking the town is lovely – price was also very reasonable for the location. like many older buildings the sound proofing is pretty poor – no issues when we stayed due to quiet neighbours but could hear their every move!
We (my wife, 2yo and myself) stayed at the property for 10 days during August and our experience was excellent! As also stated in other reviews the location is perfect – central to all amenities of Ambleside (shops, cafès, restaurants), to parks (useful for when you need to entertain kids), and to many hikes with different degree of effort. The flat itself is a cosy space with a great view from the terrace where we relaxed after a full day of hiking. It is clean and very well equipped, no issues at all. The parking space is a bit tight as indicated in the description and other reviews, however should not be an issue if you are in a small / medium car – I drove a Peugeot 3008 and did fine with a bit of manoeuvring. Wouldn’t try with anything bigger though. Really enjoyed our stay, 0 issues and definitely recommend it.

Very comfortable cottage with all necessities, had a perfectly good stay. Nice living room, bed and pillows were very comfortable, good quality China and kitchen items provided. Excellent central location, very quick access down to the shops. A few very minor points: alley to car parking space is very narrow and was obstructed by a bigger car parked in the first space so we had to park out on the street. Wi-Fi access is very intermittent, we managed to use Netflix one evening with it never working again for us, but couldn’t work out why. Steps down to the street are very steep and often littered with broken glass so something to be aware of.
Had a great stay in this well appointed apartment. We were very lucky with the weather, so got to enjoy the wee terrace in the evenings, as it gets full sun. As per previous reviews, it’s in a great location with a small car parking space, a large car will struggle to fit. The boot room is great for leaving all your walking gear in, & there are both indoor & outdoor drying facilities if you use the washing machine. I hope to return in the future!
Very enjoyable stay, perfect location within easy walking of all restaurants in Ambleside. In the evening sitting out on the patio with a glass of wine, enjoying the views made a perfect end to the day.
Really lovely place, great views, very comfortable, very quick access to the town but still nicely tucked away. Parking is tight, so I’d avoid driving here in anything bigger than a Ford focus! Great stay in Ambleside.
The view from the terrace was amazing. Good shower pressure. Super clean. Well equipped. Every thing was excellent except it was a bit difficult to find the place. But we were very happy with our stay and would love to stay there again.

A beautifully located and appointed flat. Surprisingly quiet and rural feeling, despite being in the heart of the town, 5mins walk or less from excellent shops, restaurants, cafes, cinemas and the main bus stop. Stunning views across the town to the open hills plus pedestrian access to walks and longer hikes in all directions. It is on a hillside so be prepared for a steep climb home at the end of each outing, but the views from the patio and lounge make it well worth the climb.
Great location with lovely views, short walk to restaurants and shops. Has everything you could need for your stay, warm and cosy and easy check in. The washing machine and boot room was especially useful
Great place to stay in Ambleside will definitely recommend. Parking is a bit tight if other cars are in the carpark but it’s still accessible.

This is a lovely little apartment overlooking ambleside and perfect for 2. You can be in lovely restaurants in minutes and out on fabulous walks straight from the door. We loved the boot room entrance – made our life much easier. Everything was immaculately clean and when there was a problem it was fixed immediately. Really reassuring to know. A lovely ‘bolt hole’ for a couple’s getaway. Excellent location within a short walk of all the local amenities and some excellent fell walks direct from the front door.
We had a wonderful stay in Ambleside. The location of this property is perfect, we managed to walk to everywhere we wanted to visit. The boot room was great as we did get caught in the rain one day!
Great location, close to centre of Ambleside, yet in a really quiet location above the main road. Superb view from the main room in the property. The kitchen and bathroom are modern and well fitted. There’s a useful drying room in the entrance to the property. Highly recommended, I would definitely stay there again.

Lovely little apartment in a fabulous location. Weather wasn’t great but we did manage to sit out on the terrace a couple of times and enjoy the beautiful view. Really appreciated the welcome gifts, very nice touch. Will echo other people’s comments about the car parking, could be difficult if the other parking spaces were occupied, thankfully for us there was only one other car.
This was a great place to stay! Right in the heart of Ambleside but tucked away so that it felt perfect for a couples’ stay! The views from the living room and outside terrace were spectacular!
You couldn’t give this apartment a more appropriate name! It really is in a secret position just off the high street, but so convenient to access everything that is on your doorstep. The accommodation was appointed to a very high standard with quality fixtures and fitting, but best of all was the lovely South west facing patio that we enjoyed late into the evening.
Highly recommended. The apartment is ideally located has everything you need including a very handy parking space. The place was spotless on our arrival and the terrace was a lovely spot to have breakfast or drink in the evening. 5/5

This property couldn’t have been better situated. Very near to all the shops and restaurants. Lovely views of the surrounding hills. Exceptionally clean and well appointed. Lovely touch to have a few treats left for us. The property has a parking space along a really narrow road. Could be a problem if you have a larger car.
Hidden Gem was the loveliest apartment for a couple in the perfect location! Near to the centre of Ambleside and all the creature comforts, yet right on the doorstep of the Lakes. Flat was very clean and the surprise additions were a lovely and appreciated touch. Would definitely recommend and would love to stay again.
Great find in Ambleside, cozy but perfect for a couple for a few days stay and had everything we needed. Everything was spotlessly clean and check-in and out was smooth with clear instructions provided beforehand. The flat is located above the Main Street in Ambleside with easy access to walk down via some steps, which was super convenient – no need to drive to pubs, supermarket etc. Getting in and out of the car park at the flat was a bit challenging when it was full so wouldn’t recommend bringing a large car. Ambleside is a great base for exploring the Lake District and we would happily stay at Hidden Cottage again.
A very clean, thought out, stylish apartment which had lovely finishing touches, appliances and everything you needed to make it feel like a home from home. We particularly enjoyed sitting out on the terrace, at a evening, looking at the views and wildlife. Location was great – very close to town and walking routes.
