  • Joanne says:

We had a lovely few days staying in Gingersnap Cottage. The cottage is in a great location for exploring Ambleside and the surrounding area, a short, but hilly, walk into town. The cottage doesn’t look much from the outside but inside is nicely furnished and well equipped with comfy beds and a good shower. We loved making use of the log burner in the evenings. The Lake District is so beautiful and we would definitely recommend Gingersnap Cottage as a base to explore it.

  • Marieke says:

It was super simple to check in, after opening the front door we were surpised with some fun goodies and an incredible cosy house. The beds, blankets were very comfi. The kitchen appliances also made our stay extra nice. Would definitely book again if we go to Ambleside.

  • Charlotte says:

We really enjoyed our stay at Gingersnap cottage the location was fantastic and we had no issues with the on road parking. The house was well laid out and pleasant to be in with a comfy sofa and even sky TV. We took our little border terrier and had a fantastic time exploring the Lake District. The only thing was the house was lacking in a few little essentials. Overall we had an amazing week and we would definitely stay in this cottage again. Thank you!

  • Steve Davies says:

Cottage is in a great location, just 5-10 mins walk into Ambleside. The cottage doesn’t look much from the outside, as it’s in a terrace, but inside is good. The parking is on street and this wasn’t an issue for us during our stay with always a place outside. On the ground floor there’s a very small utility with a washer/dryer and some storage. This leads onto the kitchen/living room which is well equipped with microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, hob, oven, toaster, kettle, Nespresso machine, smart TV and a log burner for those colder times. There’s other kitchen appliances if you need them but we ate out or had takeaways. There’s a terrace garden outside, with no grass, which can be an issue as a dog owner. The garden had a table and four chairs and did catch the afternoon and evening sun. Upstairs there is a lovely double bedroom with a smaller bedroom with bunk beds. Both bedrooms had plenty of storage. There is a small bathroom with a shower, WC and small sink. The owners said that they’d had the property since March 2020 and wanted to do additional work but Covid had caused delays. They mentioned sorting out the water pressure but we didn’t find that a problem. There is some damp in the utility and main downstairs room and assume they’ll be working on this over the winter months when time permits but this didn’t cause us a problem. Overall a nice cottage, within easy walk to Ambleside and a great place for our first trip to the Lake District and we would be happy to stay there again.

  • Lauren says:

Wonderful location, gorgeous inside and the prosecco on arrival was so sweet! My partner and I had a great stay with our dog and would return again.

  • Dave says:

Cottage is very quaint and perfect for a small family. Great location close to centre of Ambleside.

  • Emily says:

We had a great time at Gingersnap Cottage, the location is absolutely perfect for Ambleside (although up quite a steep hill). The cottage had everything we needed and Michelle provided a travel cot and highchair for our daughter. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting close access to Ambleside and walks from the cottage.

  • Rachael says:

We stayed at the Gingersnap Cottage for our first family holiday with our five month old daughter and dog. The cottage is listed as not suitable for young children because of the steep staircase to the bedrooms but that was not an issue for us as she is not walking or crawling yet. The cottage provided a cot and high chair which was very useful. The cottage is about a five minute walk from Ambleside centre, although it’s a bit longer coming back as it’s uphill which was a bit of a workout with a pram! The cottage had everything we needed. It was very clean and the decor was lovely. We’d happily stay here again and would highly recommend staying here.

  • Kevin says:

A great little cottage. Very neat, tidy and well appointed with all the necessary appliances to make your stay a very comfortable home from home. The road is very quiet, and a short walk gives to access to both the centre of Ambleside and the local fells.

  • Judi says:

Lovely clean and cosy cottage. Good for getting into Ambleside and for walks up the fell.

  • Lee says:

A beautiful warm and cosy cottage with all mod cons. Great location with caring hosts. You will not be disappointed.

  • Rob says:

We had a nice stay here, the location is perfect. The cottage was very clean and pleasant. The only issue we had was that we felt the bed was a bit too firm, but others may prefer that.

  • Diane Roberts says:

Stayed here during August. Well equipped cottage- even fans with warm weather! Excellent kitchen with useful Nespresso and frontier to make a nice morning coffee. Good, secure rear garden for your dogs! Only issue I noted was bunk beds may not be suitable for older children- not a issue, but be aware they have a weight max. No issues with the water pressure noted by others- shower fine. Nice furnishings, blankets and good set of games/maps for you to use! Walks to Wansfell and beyond on path at top of road. Thanks to owners and Lakeland Retreats for touches that matter!

  • Max says:

A lovely house that offers everything you could want for a retreat away.

  • Vanessa says:

Gingersnap is a cosy cottage, out of the main area of Ambleside but that is very much to it’s benefit. Beautiful walking from the door, friendly neighbours but all within walking distance of Ambleside. Loved all the quality kitchen items. Le Creuset crockery and plenty of quality kitchen gadgets. Comfy bed and contrary to other reviews, a fully functioning shower. Everything is new and carefully thought out.

  • Jesse says:

    Lovely place. Nice location.

  • Nichola says:

We had a lovely time in Gingersnap cottage. A good base for exploring ambleside.

  • Dion says:

Amazing place! Perfect location and perfect for a get away. Anyone thinking about working from there (I know…) the wifi is great too, faster than anywhere I’ve stayed!

  • Mala says:

Had a nice stay at Gingersnap – it was clean, in a good location and we appreciated the prosecco on arrival.

  • Janet Leverton says:

Very comfortable, cosy cottage; great location, close to the town but quiet and peaceful. Well equipped and beautifully maintained, dog friendly. The road and the staircase are steep so may not be appropriate for all. Suited us well, an ideal base to explore the Lakes.

  • Lee says:

Stayed in multiple Airbnb’s over the years and this one has to be one of my favourites. Great location just up the hill from the centre of Ambleside which was perfect. Would 100% recommend to anyone

  • Fran says:

  • Nadia says:

Heartings cottage was really nice and the location is very on point. Close to sight seeing places and for exploring the mountains. It’s a walking distance to shopping and restaurants. The apartment is clean and Michelle left some good tea. I’ll recommend this place.

  • Anna says:

We loved staying here with our two young kids. The house is in a wonderful location, near some great hikes, and just a short walk to pubs, a supermarket, and other shops. The house was very clean when we arrived, and the communication was very clear and helpful. The kitchen is well equipped, the living room is cozy, the bedrooms are very comfortable, and the backyard is just adorable. We read in other reviews that there was an issue with WiFi, but we had no problems at all. We would definitely recommend staying here to others and hope to come back sometime ourselves!!

  • Jon says:

Great location. Perfect sized space. Immaculate

  • Ammar says:

This place was lovely, so clean and taken care of details… movies and dvd player were available with so many options for children and adults along with some games for kids too… Very cozy and close to many restaurants, cafes and gift shops down the road… Public transportation is close too, which makes transportation very easy to many places… I personally loved this place a lot and i highly recommend it to other guests… Adam and Michelle were good hosts, responsive and helpful.

  • Anne says:

Lovely cottage in a perfect location. Walking distance to town centre and fabulous dog walks from the doorstep! Accommodation had everything we needed and there were some really thoughtful touches such as dog treats and hot drink sachets etc. Would definitely recommend to others.

  • Andrew says:

Easy access to the hills, into Ambleside and down to the lake. Great directions. Done up to a good standard – listing very representative of what you get.

  • Julian says:

Good place to stay in Ambleside; close to centre and has everything required.

  • Bradley says:

Great cottage in a great location. Would recommend to anyone planning a break in the Lake District. We had a great stay and will definitely be back

  • Anthony says:

Lovely little cottage, very clean and nicely decorated. Furniture comfy and place very cosy. Beds great and the cottage has been very nicely renovated. It is about a 5 minute walk to the centre of Ambleside and although the cottage is up a hill the walk back from the centre isn’t too onerous at all. Would have no hesitation in going back or recommending the place as an excellent base for the fells. One aspect is that as it is an old cottage the staircase is quite steep, so possibly not suitable for anyone who has difficulty with stairs, but apart from that a great little place.
