Dating back to 1810, Gingerbread Cottage is a fine example of a classic, chocolate box cottage set in the beautiful village of Hawkshead. Perfectly placed along a quiet lane just behind the main square, Gingerbread Cottage is an ideal choice for that special occasion birthday, anniversary or Lake District honeymoon, whatever time of the year you choose to visit. Beautifully styled in a traditional English country cottage theme, the cosy accommodation provides excellent facilities for a self-catering stay and matched with quality furnishings, carefully chosen fabrics and unique, handpicked accessories, you’ll feel instantly relaxed and at home.
Historic Hawkshead is mostly pedestrianised allowing visitors to saunter around the cobbled streets and ginnels lined with pretty whitewashed cottages adorned with colourful planting in the warmer months. Several gift shops and galleries are on hand for that special memento of your stay. A number of quaint tea rooms, and four excellent, cosy pubs are on hand for a spot of light refreshment during the day or heartier fayre in the evening. The around is renowned for great road and mountain biking as well as wonderful walking or for a more sedate pace, why not spend a day fishing on Esthwaite Water?
Cosy Up Around The Wood Burning Stove And Relax in The Beautiful Surroundings
Enter Gingerbread Cottage through the attractive lattice porch at the front and straight into the welcoming lounge room. Deep cushioned sofas are arranged around the wood-burning stove SMART TV with DVD player and there’s a delightful window seat to perch on and view the comings and goings outside. The dining kitchen to the rear is well fitted and has everything you’ll need to properly self cater during your stay, a stable door leading to the outside ginnel with bench seating.
Upstairs, the romantic bedroom is delightfully presented with a solid, Macintosh mahogany king-size bed and a fully tiled shower room with a corner cubicle, basin and WC.
Parking for one car is available by way of a permit on the nearby car park and you can pull up outside the cottage to unload. There’s a secure outhouse with ample room for two bikes which also houses the washing machine.

Lovely cottage! Very cosy with the fire on and the bed is very comfortable. We cooked several meals in the cottage but there are also lots of lovely places to eat nearby. We loved the Outgate Inn which is a very short drive away and Poppi Red just across the road was very nice for cake and for evening meals. Hawkshead is lovely, with everything you need on the doorstep. Very relaxing stay – thank you!
We really enjoyed our stay at Gingerbread cottage and Hawkshead is a perfect location. The cottage was comfortable, clean and cosy. The bed was so comfortable and such a nice powerful shower. Would recommend as a lovely place to stay for couples

This cottage was such a lovely stay. When you arrive, you gain entry using the key found in the key safe. You will find the parking permit on the table in the kitchen and park in the very close by permit parking area. The cottage was equipped enough to be able to cook a meal and do your laundry which is perfect for a long stay in the lakes. The cottage was so well located in the Lake District, so central to most things. The longest journey was 1 hour as everything we done was so close by. The cottage was clean, tidy, well presented and very cozy. I seriously miss staying there as it was such a lovely place to come back to each evening. Thank you

We had a lovely time in Gingerbread Cottage. The location is perfect for walking but also it’s right near the centre of the village for easy access to shops, pubs, restaurants. The cottage was spotless and cosy, the bed was very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. Thank you – we’d definitely recommend!

A beautiful, cosy little cottage to escape to. The cottage was immaculate and comfortable – perfect for relaxing after a day out. We loved our stay here and it served as a great base for exploring the lakes and getting out for hikes. Great location with plenty or watering holes and amenities nearby!

We have just spent a wonderful week in Gingerbread Cottage. The cottage is absolutely gorgeous and luxurious. It has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The bed is so comfortable; even my husband liked it and he’s usually a ‘bed moaner’! It was really good having a selection of walk books we could use. The location in the centre of Hawkshead is perfect and the local shops, pubs and eateries are all excellent and only a few minutes walk away. Thank you so much. We will definitely be back again.
Really fantastic cottage. There is everything you need here for a perfect getaway to the Lake District! Fire is particularly excellent and the bed is also worth highlighting. Very clean and lots of nice touches throughout!
