  • Alison says:

Lovely stay at Field Cottage, thank you! House is in a great location and has everything you need. Kitchen is v well equipped. Also impressed with the standard of cleanliness. Team v responsive too, we ran out of logs for the wood burner after the first night and someone kindly dropped off some more the following day which was much appreciated. Only major drawback is the quality of the mattresses, we could see this was first flagged in 2017 in the visitors book. The double bed mattress in particular is extremely hard. A compromise solution might be to provide a padded mattress protector. It’s the only thing that really lets the cottage down and would make us think twice before booking again which is a real shame.

  • Kevin says:

Great cottage in a superb location. Will be coming again soon

  • Ed says:

Beautiful cottage in a great location. Kitchen has everything you need, plenty of parking and outdoor storage is a great bonus. Lovey walks from the doorstep. Perfect base for walks in the lakes and access to Ambleside pubs to end the day!

  • John says:

Great location, very comfortable cottage and will go back!

  • Sarah says:

The cottage is beautifully laid out, very clean and in a great location.

  • Loren says:

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. The house and grounds were perfect and we had a fabulous time. Everything was catered for. The location is fab too. We made great use of the cycle/footpaths and local buses. The location was ideal for us and our two young boys. So much outdoor space as well.

  • Lara says:

The cottage is lovely and has everything you need for your stay. It’s a really comfy and cosy place to be. There is a great choice of walks directly from the cottage and its close drive to lots of interesting villages ad activities. The cottage was really clean and had plenty of space for our family of 3 and a dog. The team were also great at providing us with a highchair when I hadn’t requested one.

  • Beate says:

Field cottage is a wonderful place, and you will love it when you are planning an active holiday!! Even if you want to leave the car at the cottage, you‘ll find so many options starting directly from there!!!

    Lovely spot lovely house.

  • Sarah says:

Beautiful cottage in a great location. We will be happily recommending to friends and hope to return with our doggies.

  • Annette says:

Lovely cottage, simply and very tastefully furnished, and a comfortable and convenient base to explore the Lakes. A couple of small maintenance issues were very quickly rectified by Lakeland Retreats, and the staff are very helpful and pleasant to deal with. The only downside was the road noise, especially in the morning – at night, though, it was very quiet and the bed was very comfortable. Because there was nobody staying in the next door cottage I was able to close the gate so my dog was safe to have a wander around the garden without risk of him straying onto the busy road. The views from the front and side of the cottage are lovely, I saw some beautiful sunsets. My Collie and I had a lovely stay, thank you.

  • Susanna says:

This is a great place to stay. Excellent location for exploring by bike or trekking and a short drive to Ambleside or supermarket in Windemere. The cottage itself is well equiped, cosy and has all the amenities you need for and comfortable stay. The TV entertainment system is great for days when you’re not able to go out and about and the cottage can easily accommodate four adults or a family of four in one double and one twin bed room.

  • Bill says:

Idyllic in every way!…perfect location and and great place to spend time summer or winter….thankyou

  • Alex says:

“Hi. Had a great stay. A lovely property and location. Will stay again. Thank you”

  • Chloe says:

Wonderful stay, had everything we needed and more. Helpful host happy to answer all questions, warm and cosy also which was welcomed after long days hiking in the cold and wet! Lovely big bath for soaking after the days done, overall great stay and would highly recommend.

  • Andrew says:

Beautiful house in a fabulous position.

  • Stephanie says:

A gorgeous cozy cottage in a wonderful location perfect for shopping, pass driving and fell walking – not to mention the ‘sitting in front of the logburnering!’ Seems very well run by a friendly team. As mentioned in other reviews the rooms are quite different in size so definitely suits a couple, a family with children or like us we travelled with my mum who was very comfortable in the twin room alone. We had, quite simply, a wonderful lakeland week.

  • Katie says:

Great place I’m the middle of Ambleside!

  • Borum says:

Very nice, well-equipped cosy cottage. Three of us (including our dog) had a lovely and relaxing time. Everything was as described. Clean and convenient. 🙂 A path behind the cottage was perfect for a morning walk with my dog (but with lead because there are deers and many sheep). It’s a walkable distance to Ambleside town – about half an hour and then you can avoid the car park fee. We struggled a bit to find the cottage with the postcode because it covers a relatively large area – might need to slow down to see the name of cottages then it’s not difficult to find.

  • Sarah says:

Great accommodation and perfect for our visit to the area. Clean and welcoming With Great communication from the host

  • Sarah says:

A cosy well equipped cottage ideal for a short stay. The cottage provided a great base for walking and cycling. Dog friendly too which is a plus for us however non dog owners can be assured that the cottage has an exceptional level of cleanliness. The Drunken Duck is a short walk away and well worth a visit.

  • Simon says:

Great cottage, good location just outside Ambleside only 40 minutes walk. Some lovely walks straight from the cottage. We had a great stay. There a great pub 20 minutes walk away, the drunken Duck, with wonderful views and great food, need to book though.

  • Rebecca says:

Fantastic! Clean, modern and cosy with all the facilities you need for a small family. Beautiful setting only a short drive from Ambleside. We had a brilliant time and will definitely rebook

  • Leah Lee says:

Ross Hayton….what can I say! You are AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING and provided me with a great customer service experience.
We were really looking forward to our stay at Field Cottage but due to an Airbnb error our holiday was not meant to be. Ross dealt with our query with the upmost professionalism. He managed my expectations and kept to his promises i.e. calling me back. Very impressed.
Thank you again Ross, you made a real difference today. Hopefully will be booking my birthday holiday for September 2021 at Field Cottage and the Drunken Duck.

  • Diane Roberts says:

Great stay at this cottage. Plenty of walks around the cottage- main track from Ambleside to Hawkshead outside the front of cottage and paths to Skelwith Bridge and beyond out the back door. Lovely, clean cottage and relaxing space with delightful views. Loved the main bedroom nook and window ledges for a reading area and views after a long walk. Perfect cottage for the family and especially the four-legged ones! Thanks to Lakeland Retreats for a great, friendly service and answering all my questions! Would stay at this cottage again, totally recommended property and company.

  • Karen Robinson says:

Wonderful pre lockdown break in this charming cottage. Beautiful location with lots of doorstop walks if required but also great location to visit other parts of the Lake District. Highly recommended.

  • Geoff says:

We had a fantastic break here- appreciated even more after the last few months of lockdown. It was a great place to unwind and we loved exploring the walks next to the cottage – we took the path through the field next to the house and reached an amazing viewpoint in a small village – We especially liked another walk turning right outside the cottage to Wray Castle and would love to come back to explore it more. The cottage was immaculate when we arrived. There is a lovely garden with outside seating quite far from the gate and the road – ! I loved the master bedroom with the window seats and little offset room. Loved the sense of history you get staying in this traditional Lakeland cottage. Thank you.

  • Dom says:

“Perfect location and a Sunrise to remember”

  • Callum says:

Thanks for having us at Field Cottage, we had a great time. Location is great to access different corners of the Lake District, would happily recommend!

  • Jono says:

Michelle’s place was exceptionally clean and tidy throughout the whole house. We were really impressed by the hospitality that Michelle went to provide a welcome to the house, especially noting the basket of essentials such as biscuits, wine and chocolate cake (of which was outstanding). 5/5 Would recommend again.

  • Nigel says:

Fantastic location being only 5min drive from Ambleside and central to great walks. A well equipped cottage with cosy open fire.

  • Sam says:

Absolutely amazing weekend away with the family and 2 dogs. We would highly recommend field cottage,we absolutely loved it and the welcome pack was fantastic. It was very cosy, very clean and had everything you needed and mor

  • Carolyn says:

Field cottage is well situated on the road between Ambleside and Hawkshead. It is a busy road and care has to be taken when driving into and out of the gates. It is in a beautiful setting and it is possible to walk in several directions from the cottage. We took one particularly enjoyable walk to Wray Castle and then returned by walking along the banks of Windermere. On arrival we found a basket of groceries waiting for us. These included lovely local produce and were much appreciated. The cottage was clean and very well equipped. It had a dishwasher, oven, microwave, washer/dryer, fridge (With small freezer section) and every cooking utensil we needed. The living room had attractive flagged stone floors (I was pleased to have my slippers with me). Seating was comfortable and there was a television. Upstairs was a double (Large) bedroom and a smaller room with 2 single beds. There was also a well equipped bathroom with hot water at all times. We had two dogs with us. I was a little anxious about the wooden stairs with gaps but our dogs managed these well. I also had to watch them closely outside to ensure they did not get onto the busy road. We all settled well and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Many thanks to our hosts.

  • Stephen says:

Well equipped and nicely positioned place to stay. Good to not be in town. Enjoyed being rural.

  • Katy says:

We had a wonderful stay , the house was clean and well equipped to suit our needs . Second bedroom is small with no wardrobe just drawers however the master bedroom has plenty of space. Location is great with easy access to Ambleside and plenty of walks from your front door. Highly recommended

  • Elly says:

Field Cottage was lovely! A really cosy and sweet base to call home for a long weekend. It is perfectly situated next to the bike/footpath that takes you directly to Wray Castle. This was also perfect as you can rent bikes and canoes/kayaks from the Low Wray Campsite! Perfect! And of course you have the Drunken Duck 2 miles up the road as well.

  • Shirley says:

Thank you again for another fantastic week at Field Cottage we had the best time ever and the weather was much improved from last Easter
The dogs were so tired every night ( and so were we)

  • Paul says:

The cottage is excellently positioned within meters of the trail to Windemere or Ambleside and well worth a trek down to the waters edge early morning – if you are a runner its ideal for trails or a gentle undulating run along the path of Windemere. The cottage is well proportioned downstairs with all the facilities you would expect and all working with even a pint of mile delivered in the morning with a grocery list if you want it. Upstairs a massive main bedroom with a much smaller twin room which is functional. The heating in the place was superb and very quickly warmed up – we didnt need to use the log fire but Imagining the cold winter nights this could be a cosy little place

  • Rachel says:

Beautiful Cottage in such a lovely quiet location. Perfect for walks as there is a walking route right opposite the front door that leads to Wray Castle and around Lake Windermere. Also very easy driving access to all the other places we wanted to visit (Langdale Pikes were a 15 minute drive away and well worth a trip for a good climb and fantastic views) Also communication was great and quick responses for every question!

  • Lydia says:

We had a wonderful stay at the Field Cottage. The location is in the perfect location with beautiful works on the doorstep and Ambleside close by. The hosts were great and easy to contact and made for a stress free trip. I would definitely recommend and will definitely be using them again in the future! Thanks!

  • Brenda says:

Great location with all the amenities. We loved the trails right out the cottage door, the garden seating and the sheep in the adjacent field.

  • David says:

Fantastic cottage just outside Ambleside. Interior is spacious and well presented throughout and very dog friendly. Big open field ajoins the cottage – perfect for letting the dog have a good blast. Location is perfect to get back into Ambleside or ducking the other way to Coniston.

  • Emma says:

Field cottage is in a great location for exploring Ambleside and the surrounding area. The cottage has a pretty garden and the inside is cozy and well presented. There are nice extra touches such as OS maps to plan walks and a complimentary bottle of fizz. Key pick up is only 5 mins down the road in Ambleside and Michelle is friendly and helpful. There are some great places to eat nearby; our best recommendation is the Queen’s Head in Hawkshead which had lovely food and live music.

  • Virgina says:

A lovely cottage with stunning views, very easy to find, great to get out exploring the local area and the fire was delightful. We stayed as a couple with a dog and plenty of walking locally and tasty dog friendly places.

  • Helen says:

You will not be disappointed with your stay in Field Cottage. The accommodation is equipped with every thing you could possibly need. We especially enjoyed the log burner which was used every evening after returning from a hard days walking. This gives the whole cottage a lovely cosy feel. There are lots of OS maps and recommended walks leaflets etc in the lounge. The cottage is very dog friendly with a garden out the back and fields all around the property. You can walk into Ambleside in 45 mins or Wray castle in the about the same time. We visited the Drunken Duck which is lovely for dinner or a drink and took a short drive to Grasmere to Tweedies Inn, which was excellent. We found the whole area very dog friendly which included restaurants, cafes and boat trips
