Dovedale is a superb family cottage in the very heart of Ambleside, just off the main thoroughfare within easy, level walking distance of everything this popular Lakeland town has to offer.
Recently re-modelled from top to bottom, the owners, along with their team of local builders, took great care to ensure they retained a traditional feel throughout and have cleverly married features such as slate floors and exposed beams with up to the minute styling to create a stunning and welcoming retreat.
A Flexible Layout to Suit Family and Friends
Set over three floors, the layout ensures that everyone can enjoy a good degree of privacy when needed but there’s also plenty of living space to gather everyone together too, even the dog! The modern lounge boasts deep-cushioned sofas set around the TV and stylish wood-burning stove, surely the focal point of many an evening.
The kitchen diner has everything you’ll need to create a special evening meal or hearty breakfast and there’s a downstairs cloakroom and utility, always handy, particularly when you’ve children with you.
Three excellent bedrooms, a kingsize with en-suite shower room, a double and a large twin to the second floor continue the muted colour scheme and matching soft furnishings to create a relaxing atmosphere throughout whilst the stylish house bathroom will allow you to soak away any aches and pains from a hard day on the fells.

Dovedale cottage exceeded expectations . It was furnished & equipped to a high standard , being very comfortable & warm . Everything was spotlessly clean & was well cared for . The beds were very comfortable & plentiful hot water in the bathrooms . The location is ideal being very close to all the amenities of Ambleside , while being very quiet in a lane off the main road . The parking permit was very welcome which can be used in several car parks . We have already recommended Dovedale to friends & family and we will definitely book another stay . Thank you Michelle for a great stay at your lovely property
Fabulous house in the heart of Ambleside. Every single amenity thought of in the kitchen. Comfortable beds. Thought parking might be a pain, but we just unloaded and used the Rydal Road car park with the included pass for the week. Peaceful, although in the centre. Highly recommend.

2nd time staying and very pleased, we will stay again without a doubt. It’s great for 3 couples and allowing dogs is amazing. Clean, well presented and personal touches here and there, it really feels like a home for the stay.

What a stay! This location was perfect for our family holiday in Ambleside! Everything that you could have wanted or needed was provided; and certainly no scrimping on the quality of goods or facilities on site. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to anyone!

We had the best time staying in this beautiful little cottage. It is finished to such a high standard and really looks the part. The showers were amazing! Which is a nice surprise as a lot of showers when you are away are so rubbish. But the pressure was great. It’s the little things. The booking and check in was easy. Everyone was really accommodating when sorting our booking etc as there was a little error on our part. We also were given late check out as they had no one staying the following day, which was lovely to not be rushing on the last day. Great stay! We will 100% be back!
What a great find! The house was perfectly located in a super quiet road in the middle of the town.
The house was beautifully clean with a warm welcome and was very well decorated and set out and the area for boots and coats was ideal for getting them out of the way after long walks. We used the local long stay car parks for the car which were only 5 minutes walk away but easily unloaded the car in the road outside the house when we arrived and left.
Comfortable beds and great bathrooms too, we’re already looking at further dates to come back!
Just returned from a lovely New Year stay in this wonderful cottage. The property is really well equipped and has a homely feel. 3 lovely bedrooms and 2 luxurious bathrooms. Fantastic location in the centre of Ambleside for walks from the door and all the local amenities.

Best place we’ve stayed in the lakes and our new go to place. Everything was as described. Clean and maintained to an exceptional standard. Parking space Included was 20 second walk. Stay here. Seriously, you will not regret it.
Thoughtfully refurbished and decorated by the owners, lots of character, comfy beds & linen, brilliant underfloor heating, well equipped kitchen but no cupboard space for food/drinks, nice big fridge but freezer space too small and did not close properly as it was all frosted up. Nice outdoor space and spacious, beautiful bathrooms. Unfortunately we found the microwave dirty, half eaten food in the fridge/freezer, dishwasher filthy and broken, kettle broken, thermostat on ensuite shower faulty. Lakeland retreats offered a re-clean the day after our checkin but we had already cleaned at this point as we needed to use the appliances. Also tried to blame us for arriving at 3pm but a representative was also there at 3pm and told us it was OK to go in. In summary, nice cottage offered by the owners but let down by the management/cleaning company.

Just back from a week’s stay in Dovedale. Location is perfect, right in the middle of town on a very quiet lane. As soon as we walked in the front door we were blown away with the standard of the cottage, everything has been fully modernised to a very high standard, top quality kitchen appliances, both bathrooms were superb both with really good showers. Very comfy beds. We couldn’t fault any of it.
Parking permit came in really handy, we managed top park right outside the front door and it didn’t move again all week!
We’ll be booking again for next year!

This a beautiful house with a great interior. It is close by to lots of restaurants, shops and pubs, with fabulous walks straight from the front door.
We have just spent 5 nights in Dovedale cottage, it was situated in a fantastic position, right in the center of Ambleside with access to all shops, restaurants and pubs, it was also close to many fabulous walk. The cottage itself was excellent, very cosy and comfortable with all amenities needed to make our stay feel like home. We certainly recommend this cottage and will hopefully book another stay in the not too distant future.
Lovely weekend in this cosy little house. The place was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated with lots of pleasant finishing touches. An ideal location in the centre of Ambleside; Windermere is also easily accessible by bus/car. Communication with the host was excellent – Michelle was more than happy to provide us with suggestions for walks/things to do nearby. Kitchen was well-equipped with cooking utensils, It’s also worth noting there is only one parking permit, therefore any additional cars will need to pay, though Michelle did provide us with nearby parking suggestions. Would absolutely visit again and recommend to anyone visiting Ambleside!
Amazing location, right in the heart of Ambleside with lots of shops and walks. Cottage was decorated nicely and had everything we needed, however, we were a group of 6 adults and 2 large dogs so the downstairs was a bit small for us – would suit a smaller family better. Also parking was an issue, you cannot park outside the property for longer than 1 or 2 hours, we had two cars and you get a parking permit for one of the cars to freely use the car park which is about a 10 minute walk (Michelle told me this before and wasn’t an issue). The issue was trying to find a space after a day out, we had to circle the car park for half hour + waiting for someone to leave. Was a bit annoying after a long walk and in wet clothes! Maybe we just picked the wrong time to go..”

Such a beautiful and thoughtful cottage. There were lots of little touches like local toiletries and art, books about the area and even a Lake District edition of monopoly. The fire was on for when we arrived and a bottle of fizz was on the side. A gorgeous location, really convenient, beautiful cottage and interiors as well as being well kitted for nights in cooking. Would definitely recommend!
Dovedale was a fantastic house right in the middle of Ambleside. It had excellent facilities and was decorated beautifully. Would definitely stay there again!
We had a lovely week and all agreed that in over 20 years of coming to cottages in the Lake District this is probably the best one we have stayed in. Our thanks to the owners for fitting it and equipping it out so well and to your cleaner for making sure it was so clean for our arrival. You will be surprised how many times arriving for a holiday we have felt that the first thing we needed to do was to start cleaning. Not this time, immaculate!
great house will all the aminities you could want, all wrapped up in a stylish pad, with everything on your doorstep. there is an amazing vegetarian/vegan cafe on your door step and a good Thai, your in the centre of town with out even knowing it. the place has lovely underfloor heating that keeps you so warm you wont need to use the log burner. you wont want to go home
This is a beautiful house in a great spot for exploring the Lakes. The pictures don’t really do it justice. It’s a big, modern house with lots of thoughtful touches and all the mod-cons you would need. The utility room was a huge help for muddy boots and for our dog stuff. We had a great stay.

OUTSTANDING! This apartment (more like a house with 3 floors/stories) is gorgeous and tastefully decorated. Modern, yet also country-rustic. Everything is brand new and freshly renovated. Radiant heat floors, towel warmers and wood burner made chilly nights super cozy. My wife and I are vegan and cook most meals at home. This kitchen was very well stocked with everything you could possibly need. Location was convenient to everything in Ambleside. Never more than a 5 minute walk from either end of town. Check In was easy, picked the keys up right down the block. Parking permits were provided (and necessary!). Do not hesitate to book, you’ll love it!
