Pretty little Damson Cottage sits in the picturesque and unspoiled hamlet of Crook amid a cluster of similar, whitewashed cottages dating back to the 17th century. The former residence of a local mill worker, Damson Cottage has been lovingly adapted for modern-day living yet retains a certain charm and traditional style.
Delightfully rural, less than 10 minutes drive from the bustling resort of Bowness on Windermere, Crook is the perfect base for enjoying a quieter, more gentle pace. An abundance of walks and cycle routes can be enjoyed right from the door along quiet country lanes, alive with damson blossom in the spring and giving way to far-reaching views of the Lyth and Winster Valleys. Do pop into the renowned (and very dog-friendly) Sun Inn just up the road for a thirst-quenching pint and hearty bar meal in front of their open fire during your visit before heading back to the cosy comfort of Damson Cottage, ready to do it all again tomorrow.
Damson Cottage has an upside-down layout where you enter into a hallway with useful cupboard for hanging your outdoor clothing. Off here lies the bathroom with deep bath, basin and WC (there’s a mixer spray adaptor). Beyond is a romantic, double bedroom with exposed beams and French doors opening onto the outside.
The open plan living space sits on the first floor with vaulted ceiling, exposed trusses and impressive exposed stone wall. The traditional lounge area has a TV, DVD and digital radio and the neat kitchen is well fitted with everything you’ll need to fully self-cater during your stay to include an electric oven and halogen hob, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave and washing machine. Parking is usually available on the lane beside the cottage.

Nice and lovely cottage, great area very quite and close to almost everywhere we would like to see in the Lake District. Perfect for two people and a pet to stay in and have a great break from busy work
We had a wonderful stay in this sweet little cottage. Ideally located for some fantastic walks. Easy to park on the lane, very easy check-in from a lockbox. The cottage was very clean and has everything you’d need. 5 min walk down the road to The Sun pub. A five min drive away is a ‘food park’ where they have a bakery & great coffee shop called Rinaldo’s. If you have a dog there’s a little stream & field across the road to easily take them out before bedtime.
Very cozy cottage. Good location.
A lovely clean cosy cottage, in a quiet location, with easy access to Bowness-On-Windermere and Windermere.
Great locations, quiet. Would recommend!
Gorgeous period cottage to escape to and enjoy the beautiful Lake District. Lovely and quiet but within such a short drive of so much! Highly recommend.
Such a lovely cottage, dog friendly and a great location to drive to various places in the Lakes.
An absolutely beautiful cottage set in a quiet area with easy access by car to wherever you want to go to in The Lakes. very clean, Cherry the neighbour was so helpful and extremely friendly.
Lovely little cottage hidden in Crook. Great location, 10 minute drive from Bowness.
Lovely cottage only about 15 minutes drive from lake Windermere, which is great if you want somewhere abit quieter to stay but still easily access to the lake. The cottage is upside down so the bedroom and bathroom are downstairs and the open plan kitchen and living room upstairs which adds a querky touch. Loads of information was left in the visitors book which was good. Overall we had a great stay.
A lovely house in a great location. Very handy for accessing the lakes and a nice pub within walking distance. We enjoyed our holiday and would recommend staying here.
Fantastic find in the middle of the Lake District. Perfect for a couples get away. Only 10 mins drive from Windermere and 5 min walk from the local pub so ideally located.
