Once you get to Cobblestones, via a sloping access lane from the courtyard, you’ll find everything you need for your stay inside. If it’s the great outdoors you’re here for, there’s a useful bench and boot rack, and loads of hooks for your walking gear by the front door. Four steps then take you down into the main hallway and the rest of the comfortably furnished apartment.
Take time to relax in the open-plan living room/kitchen diner. Curl up together on the leather sofa and enjoy a movie on the widescreen TV. If you’re not heading out or ordering in, the well-equipped kitchen area has an electric hob and microwave for whipping up dinner from the local produce you picked up earlier in the day. And there’s room on the countertop to fix a well-earned pre-dinner G&T after a day of exploring. If the weather’s fine, take your drinks outside and clink glasses in the shared garden by the River Brathay (just across the road).
When bedtime beckons, get ready in the smart, travertine-tiled fitted bathroom before heading back into the bedroom and drifting off for the night in the comfy double bed, waking refreshed for whatever adventures tomorrow may bring.
And breathe… The pair of you are going to love Cobblestones. This charming and cosy courtyard apartment (part of a complex converted from former stables and grooms’ cottages) is the perfect base for cosy nights in and adventurous days out on the nearby fells – a path up to Todd Crag is enticingly close to the front door, with Loughrigg Fell and views of Windermere and the Coniston fells part of the stunning rewards. But, if the only walk you fancy is to the shops or the nearest pub, a twenty-minute stroll to the many delights of Ambleside will leave you spoilt for choice.
