Welcoming Retreat, A Stone’s Throw From The Centre of Ambleside

This pretty whitewashed Lakeland cottage enjoys a super handy location within a minute’s walk of all that this popular, outdoorsy village has to offer. Over 200 years old, the cottage is furnished and presented in a traditional style and ticks all the important boxes on your wish list including quality facilities, character features, a warming woodburning stove and pet friendly too. Barley Croft provides stylish, self-catering comfort for a couple or a small family and your dog.  Although the cottage is perfectly suited to a short break for four adults wishing to sample the cuisine and nightlife of the village, four adults may find the kitchen and dining facilities at Barley Croft a little restricted if wanting to prepare evening meals, particularly for a longer stay.

A short stroll from the cottage brings you into Ambleside’s thriving centre, the local stone buildings and iconic church steeple set against a dramatic backdrop of the Lakeland fells, beckoning modern-day holidaymakers to explore the great outdoors as visitors have done for hundreds of years. Enjoy the thrill of reaching the summit of your first Wainwright or ticking off another one of the 214, take in the sights and sounds of the tumbling Stockghyll Falls or relax on the newest steamer, MV Swift and enjoy a cruise along England’s largest Lake to Bowness and Lakeside.

Pretty Décor Married With Quality Fitments Ensure Your Every Comfort

The caring owners have created a truly special home from home here at Barley Croft with great attention to ensuring that you’ll have everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. From the front, the hallway has room for hanging your outdoor jackets and boots and leads through into the social kitchen dining area, well equipped with original flagged flooring, traditional style fittings and solid wood countertops. The lounge lies beyond here, a cosy room arranged around the woodburning stove set in a stylish Inglenook complimented with a SMART TV and DVD and carpets for your comfort. Head up the stairs (note these are quite steep) to the first floor where there are two kingsize bedrooms, almost identical except for one having a window seat and both with solid oak furnishings and comfortable kingsize bed to ensure a restful sleep. The family bathroom has a powerful shower over the all-important bath, basin and WC.

Although there is no outside space here at Barley Croft, Rothay Park and Borrans Park are just minutes away. Lovely little cottage for our stay. It had everything we needed and the shower was amazing after our long hikes! Perfect location as it was close to the shops, restaurants, park & activities as well as starting point to lots of walks. We would definitely book again.

  • Emile says:

Beautiful cottage, fantastic location just two minutes from the town centre. Have stayed before and will stay again!

  • Lindsay says:

We stay in Ambleside maybe once or twice a year and this is the nicest Airbnb we’ve stayed in. Really lovely place. Decorated and furnished to a high standard, clean and comfortable. Great access on the edge of town and round the corner from a car park and also bus stops. We took an open top bus ride which was lovely. Loved it and hope to stay again!

  • Peter says:

A very convenient and well equipped small cottage in a very central Ambleside location. For the two of us the accomodation worked really well for exploring this beautiful area.

Fabulous house. Well located and equipped. Very comfy beds. Good doonas. Location is brilliant. Loved the fire place. We couldn’t have had a better stay.

  • Hollie says:

My husband, two teenage daughters, dog and myself have just had a wonderful stay here for a week. The position of the cottage is perfect to be able to walk to the local shops in Ambleside while being close enough to lots of other attractions with a short drive. It had been suggested that the kitchen would not be suitable for cooking indoors but we found it fine. There is a separate freezer which wasn’t listed, a washing machine and tumble dryer. You could access Netflix and other apps on the TV and the WiFi was great. Everything was really comfortable and planned out well which meant that we could relax after a long day out walking around the beautiful area. The car park permit also saved us lots of money! We will definitely be recommending and returning. Thanks for a great stay.

  • Joe says:

Barley Croft is the ideal cottage for exploring Ambleside and the beautiful area surrounding it. The cottage is exactly as described and although the kitchen was a little cosy for 4 we were still able to enjoy our breakfasts at the table before heading out and enjoying the glorious weather and scenery all day. We had an absolutely fantastic stay in the lakes and would recommend Barley Croft to anyone looking for an easy getaway.
