Lovely little cosy place in the heart of Ambleside. We had a great stay, thanks!

  • Cheryl says:

Great cottage in a perfect central location in lovely Ambleside. Cosy with the wood burner. Would definitely go back.

  • Georgia says:

Great little cottage, the perfect location for exploring the beautiful surroundings. The log burner kept us wonderfully snug. And the whole cottage, was perfectly equipped and very comfortable.

  • Robert says:

Beautiful location right in the middle of Ambleside, much squirkier and more interesting than most other properties. Lovely view from the kitchen window and a peaceful stay despite being so central. would certainly stay again 🙂

  • John-Paul says:

Great property, great location. Highly recommend.

  • Ed says:

Excellent little cottage right in the heart of the town, very well kept and easy instructions

  • Maria says:

The cottage was in a fantastic location very central to the hussle and bussle of Ambleside! It does the job if you’re just looking for a place to sleep after days out exploring the lakes. The cottage could have been cleaner as there were dead insects, hair and a build up of dust in some places but overall it was clean enough. It also lacked a home away from home feeling as its quite small and cluttered but it did the trick and again the location was fantastic so it was still worth the time regardless of the negatives. Also a HUGE plus was that it was dog friendly which made the trip for us worthwhile as we have a puppy we couldn’t possibly leave behind.

  • Becky says:

Perfectly located, the parking permit is also really helpful. The cottage itself with the mezzanine bedroom is very cute!

  • Ella says:

We had a wonderful stay here! The location is brilliant, you’re bang in the middle of Ambleside. So perfect for post hike trips to the pub.

  • Steve says:

Michelle was a great host. The cottage is in a good location for restaurants with 2 pubs literally out side the cottage . Car park can take time to find a spot but very close. such a good service from lakeland retreats. We would love to visit again

  • Stephanie says:

Perfectly central bolt hole in Ambleside. Cosy and comfy with everything you need for your stay kindly supplied such as washing up liquid and clean dishcloth etc. Would use again and would recommend

  • Helen says:

This cottage is perfect. Great location to explore the Lakes. Lovely living space, with everything you could need in the kitchen. Comfy bed and really hot, powerful shower.

  • Helen says:

This is a great place to stay in the heart of Ambleside. Felt like home instantly. Great facilities. Comfy bed up on the mezzanine level. Parking permit that could be used in local car parks was very easy. Lovely view from the living space.

  • Benjamin walker says:

A lovely week spent here! Great small, cute spot, while also being easy to get to and move around in without a car

  • Sharon says:

Situated in a good spot in Ambleside and other areas. Really loved the fact that you offered a parking permit for car parks in Ambleside and surrounding areas. Lovely, quaint little cottage.

  • Ashleena says:

An excellent bolt hole in the heart of one of my favourite places, Ambleside. The kitchen table has a direct view of the sunset – an unexpected bonus!

  • Andy says:

This is a really classy space: beautifully designed to make maximum use of the high ceiling, with the bed on a beautifully designed mezzanine with a high quality build. The downstairs bathroom works well, the shower is excellent, and we used the undercroft storage room for bikes and bike rack. And of course the location is superbly central. What a great place to spend the first week post lockdown when holidays have been allowed. Thanks Michelle!

  • Reuban says:

This place was really cozy for two and served as a wonderful starting point to explore the region! Really enjoyed our time here and would reccomend it for people looking for a place to set out from whether you have a car or not. Would happily stay here again!

  • Amna Siddiqui says:

We had a wonderful stay at Archway Cottage. It is perfect for couples. The location is great, minutes from all the shops, but set back so it’s quiet. There are plenty of walks straight from the doorstep to keep you busy, and if you don’t drive (like us) and want to try some further afield, then Ambleside is well connected with buses- the bus stops again are just a couple of minutes away from the cottage. Archway Cottage has all the crockery you need to whip up some hearty meals. We loved the log burner, and the bottle of Prosecco was a really thoughtful welcoming touch! Despite all the rain in the week, we really enjoyed our trip and hope to be back soon. We would highly recommend!

  • Chris says:

Awesome place for 2 whether you are fell walking enthusiasts, general tourists or both. Pity about covid though but did not ruin the Archway!!

  • Elizabeth says:

We had a lovely stay at archway. Very central to Ambleside, it is an amazing base for walkers and we recommend the Fairfield Horseshoe in particular as you can do this straight from the cottage. Kitchen in particular is well equipped for self catering and the general space is cosy. I would highly recommend a pint at the Golden Rule pub which is a stone’s throw from the cottage and the walnut chippy does incredible fish and chips.

  • Lee says:

Perfect location to explore South lake District. Cosy and perfect for us and our little dog. Parking permit was a brilliant extra and the car park in only a short 3 min walk away.

  • Emma says:

This is a fabulous little flat, right in the heart of Ambleside and close to lots of dog friendly pubs and restaurants. There isn’t any outside space, but you have access to a parking permit for the car park very close to the apartment – be warned, this can get very busy so getting a space might not always be possible. The flat is small but has everything you need for a holiday exploring the lakes -including a wet room style shower which would be super handy if you have dogs with you (we did, but he didn’t get too mucky!). As others have said, the bedroom is up a steep flight of stairs to a maisonette type bedroom so take care – the shared space means it might be tricky if you are a couple made up of an early riser/later sleeper like we are! Welcome bottle of bubbles was a lovely touch. We had a wonderful few days and our only wish was that we had been able to stay longer!!

  • Skye says:

What a gem of a place. Brilliant location and the space is amazing. Very clean and contactless check-in/check-out made it so easy during covid-19 pandemic. Parking permit was fab, car park 2 minute walk away which was ideal. If you are over 5ft5in be careful with some of the beams! We hit our head on the one by the sofa and the slanted ceiling in the bedroom space meant ducking to get around. But it made it a quirky place to stay and added to the character. The apartment got very warm on days above 20 degrees so bare that in mind if you take a dog or prefer being a bit cooler. Would 100% recommend this stay.

  • Katie says:

What a lovely little place to stay and explore the lakes from! Very good use of space and layout, felt really homely. Located down a quiet street but close to local Tesco express if needed! Kitchen equipped with more than enough cooking utensils/pans which for us was great as we self catered most nights. The use of the local parking permit is also fantastic as this is only a 2 min walk away from the cottage! Would recommend staying here!

  • John-Paul says:

    Perfect weekend retreat

  • Steven says:

Stayed 3 nights at Archway and this proved a great base to discover the area. Tucked down a quiet lane the accommodation was everything we hoped for.

  • Richard says:

Perfect location for a great break in the Lake District. Cosy little place.

  • Natalie says:

This is a very sweet little cottage located in the centre of Ambleside with many beautiful walks on your doorstep. There is a large wet room and loo downstairs. The living space and kitchen is very comfortable and it has all of the facilities you require such as a dishwasher, a range of cooking utensils, washing machine and crockery. It is a perfect location for a couple’s getaway in the Lake District.

  • Ben says:

Right in the heart of Ambleside, Archway Cottage proved to be a lovely nest for the week, minutes walk from anywhere needed in Ambleside with handy town parking. We loved the second-floor bed and the full kitchen meant we could cook as we went along. The log-burner was an exciting addition, felt very at home, missing the Lake District already!

  • eddie says:

Absolutely brilliant bright light location with great view and sunsets. Right in the heart of Ambleside.

  • Sharon says:

Great location and apartment. Quick to respond. Would recommend without hesitation.

  • Ollie says:

We really liked this place, nice and clean and homely, has a nice log burner and the bed is super comfy. It’s walking distance to pubs and restaurants. My favourite pub which is near the flat was the unicorn, friendly place with bands playing over weekends. If your into hiking or cycling it’s the place to be, loads to do.

  • Bev says:

Very compact yet everything u need. Great location

  • Beth says:

This is a great little cottage for a couple looking to enjoy the Lake District. The location can’t be beat especially if you would like to explore without a car. Shops and pubs were in easy walking distance. We did several hikes right from the house and another with just a short bus ride.

  • Nicola says:

A lovely cute cottage right in the centre of Ambleside, perfect for a night in or an easy stroll to the local eateries! We very much enjoyed our stay, perfect for a couple, easy access to walking and very quiet location. The parking permit was greatly appreciated. nice to escape from it all!

Great place right in the heart of Ambleside, easy walking distance to the car park and all local shops and restaurants. Very clean and comfortable apartment. Michelle and other staff at lakeside retreats were very helpful during our stay, would highly recommend.

Excellent location! 2 minutes walk from the tourist information center / post office, but in a quiet courtyard so no traffic at all.

  • Jan says:

Good location close to town centre and easy access to the fells. Made the most of the space that the smallish cottage offers . would recommend to couples looking for a good get away in the heart of the Lakes

Adam was really helpful and the cottage was stunning. Tucked away in the middle of Ambleside right next to all the local pubs and shops. The cottage was immaculate and exactly what we were looking for.
