Located in one of the oldest parts of Ambleside and awarded a Grade II listing, Anniversary Cottage provides super accommodation for a special celebration break, whatever time of year you choose to visit.

Perfectly placed in the centre of this popular Lake District town, there’s a wonderful selection of attractions for both the first time or returning adventure-seeking visitor; step out from the cottage and within yards, you’re at White Platts Park where you’ll find tennis courts, bowls, pitch and putt and crazy golf. There’s an indoor climbing wall if the weather turns wet and a wide selection of outdoorsy shops if you get caught in a shower or two.

Of course, no trip to the Lakes would be complete without venturing out onto the fells, a favourite walk of ours being low lying Loughrigg from where you can wander over to Grasmere and return via Rydal Water and the Caves, an easy amble for all abilities.

Anniversary Cottage is just charming; the exposed beams throughout marry perfectly with modern-day facilities and the owners have carefully chosen muted shades of décor and pretty soft furnishings to create a homely, romantic feel throughout. Step inside from the street and directly into the lovely lounge area arranged around a warming gas fire set in a stone surround with dining facility conveniently placed at the entrance to the well equipped, spacious kitchen. Step out of the back door and into the enclosed rear courtyard where you can enjoy lovely views over the village to the local fell range beyond.

A rather steep staircase leads to the first floor where you’ll find two lovely bedrooms, a double and a twin, both with very comfortable beds to ensure a good night’s rest. The recently upgraded shower room has a large cubicle, basin, WC and heated towel rail.

Outside the enclosed patio garden is awash with colour in the Spring and just the spot to enjoy an alfresco brunch or a pre-dinner drink before heading to one of the fabulous restaurants that Ambleside has to offer.

Parking is by way of a permit on nearby Compston Street, just behind the cottage.

    Location is great, really central – you can walk to everything, including lots of great places to eat, but with very little noise. Everything clean and well set up. Good communication from the host. We really enjoyed being able to walk out of the house and into the National Park without needing to drive.
